PROLOGUE
You’ve probably heard the old cliche “Politics as Usual.” Well, not so fast with this saying. Times do change. Situations do change, as well as do people, environments, demographics, and social encounters. Phrases, languages, sayings and expressions of yesterday may not mean the same in today’s world, as they did then.
You see, today’s populace tends to be more persuasive and convincing with respect to their influential opinions.
Yes, times do change, for better or worse. Being older than dirt and twice as gritty, I tend to compare yesterday’s politicians with that of today.
I remember when the little judge, George Wallace, was a strong third-party presidential contender in the 60’s. His originating political party of yesterday has now seemingly changed in today’s environment.
When campaigning one of Wallace’s famous idioms was, “Put all the candidates from the two main parties in a sack and shake it up. Then, pull one out, for they are all the same." He was pushing his third-party agenda of course.
I once was invited to the family dinner by my later-to-be wife. She was very cautious and warned me, knowing my open freewill opinions, not to mention either religion or politics. The dinner was very tasty, and the family incredibly gracious. It was hard to eat biting my tongue, however.
One of the reasons I became a freelance writer was so I could write about things that mattered. For the most part this entailed being studiously objective, keeping my opinions to myself. But after a while I realized I had things I wanted to say, and say unequivocally, as a freelancer with certain experiences that have shaped my view of America.
"In the late 18th century, while reading his Greek New Testament, English politician William Wilberforce became a believer. He then read Philip Doddridge’s book 'The Rise and Progress of Religion in the Soul' and determined that he should retire as a politician in order to be more directly involved in ministry."
"Wilberforce’s friends, like cleric John Newton, encouraged him to stay on in the House of Commons and to serve the gospel there. He did so and was instrumental in bringing about the abolition of the slave trade in England in 1807."
"He was a social reformer who worked to establish education for the poor. In fact, many improvements in the fields of health, education and social welfare which we take for granted today can be attributed to the work of these Christian politicians of 19th century England."
"We should pray for more of such Gospel-focused people who will seek to serve the Gospel’s interest with integrity from within our national, regional and local governments. The crucial elements of Wilberforce’s spirituality were daily self-examination, prayer, morning and evening devotions, an expectancy of heaven and a recognition of the importance of solitude.” (taken from book Romans, God’s Perfect Plan, by David Cook)
We too must be fruitful as God-honoring believers in the circumstances within secular politics. We must also renew our minds as we reflect on the truth of the gospel.
So, I raise these godly disciplines in this inspiring fictional parable, that of an earthly story with a heavenly meaning entitled “SOLVING AMERICA'S PUZZLE"
" When the righteous prosper, the city rejoices; when the wicked perish, there are shouts of joy.Through the blessing of the upright a city is exalted, but by the mouth of the wicked it is destroyed." (Proverbs 11:10-11)
Glad this week is over. I really do have spiritual burn-out. But I must continue with the needed research for my college thesis paper. Time is surely running out. I must not have any mistakes; I know just how the review committee thinks. They are precise and detail-orientated in their reviews. I must be ready to give good, aggressive persuasion as to the topic of my paper.
Realizing in recent years; we have seen an upward tick in cynicism among the electorate with respect to politics. My paper must be ready to challenge this opinion. Oh well, if I can just sleep on it for now and get much-needed rest.
Then it happened. I don’t rightly know how to convey it for it was a total surprise to me, of all people, a well-educated college Bible professor. I saw a vision.
I was walking past a familiar grouping of national tourist attractions when I happened to see a large sign reading “Political Rally Tonight” posted on a large coliseum marquee. What really drew my attention was the announced speaker, the one and only politician of renowned order. I just have to attend, not wanting to miss this opportunity of a lifetime. I must go in immediately for a front row seat.
All of a sudden I saw, standing by the coliseum entryway, a well-dressed professional guide. Grabbing me by the hand, he guided me into a rather strange entry room. The room was empty but for a large table displaying many pieces of a puzzle.
“What’s this all about?” Where’s the rally?” I asked.
The stranger answered, “Simply put the puzzle together and you will see, my good friend.”
And that I did. As the pieces began to come together the first image was that of the world globe, besieged by a large army of many nations. Continuing, the complete picture began to come together with the United States White House overshadowing the world.
The differentiating feature of the puzzle was that of a large, blond-haired, distinguished gentleman standing behind a podium dressed in a blue business suit, white shirt and red tie. Seated in the front was a large crowd, appearing to have phones in hand taking notes, listening rather quietly to this gentleman’s remarks.
Turning to my new-found friend, I queried, "Well, sir, is this a review of this upcoming rally? And is this man in the puzzle the leader whom I thought him to be?" I was remembering the outside announcement.
His answer came, ”As the puzzle shows, my young friend, this is Providence's man of the hour, (Daniel 2:21) simply dictating the needed wisdom, understanding and knowledge to establish spiritual stability in today’s world.’’
“You see, my good friend, our current world is in total chaos," he went on. "We are surely in an unseen war of many battles. Just look around you. Today’s populace, governmental factions, leaders, and our overall developing civilization need a renewed divine spiritual awakening. In other words, we need a real religion of the soul."
“I agree, kind Sir, but how may this come about? How may we put the message of this puzzle to work in America?“ I asked in total agreement.
“It’s simple, my kind friend," he responded. "Scriptural Providence has come to life in this puzzle, not only giving us the lesson plan, but with it comes the divine solution.” (II Chronicles 7:14)
“Wow, Sir, just who are you? A divinely sent spokesperson, an angel, I presume. And why me? I’m sure, with your supernatural knowledge you know exactly who I am. Anyway, I have certainly learned a lot, with your brief visit. I do thank you," I answered.
Looking around for his response, however, after my final remarks seemed fruitless. Not only had he suddenly disappeared, but the entire vision scenario did as well.
I was sitting back at my desk staring at my computer screen. Vision or not, I got the message that day. It was a message badly needed to finish my assignment. I must go to work, before I forget. And typing away I went, madly tearing up those old computer keys, while burning the midnight oil.
Yes, I did complete my thesis on time. And yes, I did get that well-deserved college promotion with no negative committee comments. What a surprise, or should I say what a blessing.
What happen with the political rally?
Well, it didn’t exactly go off with me as portrayed in the vision. Nonetheless, the vision did prompt me to tune into the rally replay later, by way of the public broadcast media. And I did learn from it.
Contrary to some thinking, we do live in a representative republic whereby we vote for those who will govern us. We are to seek the truth, and make assessments based on Biblical conviction, and not be swept along by the media. And by all means vote. Amen!
EPILOGUE
“May the God who gives endurance and encouragement give you the same attitude of mind toward each other that Christ Jesus had,so that with one mind and one voice you may glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.” (Romans 15:5-6)
Today, political unity is too expendable. Politics surely divides us too easily at all levels of our populace. We, as a nation, are far too portable. When there is a difference, we tend to passively pass it by.
Nonetheless, Christian unity is God-given. It is precious, and we need to work hard to maintain it at all levels of our democracy.
What exactly was the circumstance of this world-wide chaos which was the matter of this blog? Simply open the Scriptures. The entire world demographics appear to be massively moving towards the last days. The Scripture interprets the situation as the Perils of Apostasy.
Scripture very vividly gives an account of this happening. (II Timothy 3:1-9-13) and (II Timothy 4:3-4) However, Scripture also gives us a bright solution. (II Timothy 3:14-17)
The case-in-point is an unseen, spiritual war consisting of many battles. (Ephesians 6:12) In other words, we believers’ enemies are the demonic hosts of Satan, always assembled for mortal combat. However, we can easily resist this warfare. (Ephesians 6:13-18)
Scripture also gives a mirror reflection of today’s mind-set, that of derision, scorn, mockery and disdain. (2 Peter 3:3-4)
The Scripture also gives certain cautions concerning false teachers. (II John 1:7-11)
I trust you clicked and read the highlighted Scriptures of this blog. So, what’s your battle plan of action? Simply let your fingers do the battle. (II Timothy 3:16) Please conclude this blog by reading (Romans 13:1-7) God Bless!
