Do not be anxious or worried about anything, but in everything [every circumstance and situation] by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, continue to make your [specific] requests known to God. (Philippians 4:6 AMP)
In this part of Philippians 4:6, the verse tells us that we are to pray and petition God about everything; every circumstance and situation. We can pray to God, which is just talking to Him, all the time. When we come to God with specific prayers, He is able to grant them easier than if we just ask for a uniform prayer.
Instead of just saying, “Lord, please bless me,” we need to be specific in our prayer. If we pray, “Lord, please bless my finances,” we can see Him move in that area. God knows what we need, but we need to ask specifically for the areas we need blessed in. Then we can see the results of our prayers.
As mentioned above, prayer is simply talking to God, while petition is asking for something specific. When we pray with petition, we are asking God for something we believe He can do. We have to have the faith to believe and not doubt that God is for us and wants to give us His best. That may not be everything we ask for, but it is everything we ultimately need.
Lord, I pray that you would remind me today that I can come to You with prayers and petitions, knowing that You only have my best interests at heart. Thank you for listening to me. In Jesus Name, Amen!
