Ezekiel 36:27 ‘And I will put My Spirit within you, and cause you to walk in My statues and you shall keep My judgments, and do them.’
I believe this is one of the most important aspects of Christianity that needs to be addressed to the new believer. Too many times we don’t get the whole picture of what we are given at the time of salvation, and we do not understand what it means to be ‘spirit filled’.
This is one of the elements of Christianity that our human minds can't totally understand. There is no magic involved but it is supernatural. The Holy Spirit takes up residence in our spiritual heart. That is the part of us that is immortal and will spend eternity somewhere. He has all the attributes of God the Father and God the Son. Because He is a spirit He can be every-where at all times even though He is also in us. Can't explain it totally it is part of faith.
When we become a Christian we get all that the Holy Spirit is as well as the fruits we talked about earlier [Galatians 5:22, 23]. As a babe in Christ we must grow and mature so that these fruits will grow and mature too. The more we allow the Holy Spirit into our daily life the more we will exhibit Christlike character and become our best self. God does not want us to be cookie cutter Christians. He made us divine originals. He wants to have become all we can be, free from sin.
As our relationship with Christ grows we find we give Him more and more opportunity to work in and through us. There is a term we hear in the Christian church called 'being spirit-filled or sanctified'. That is when we come to the place in our relationship that we want the Holy Spirit to be the master of every area of our life; the known and the unknown. It is another act of the mind and will. However, you never lose the ability to limit access to the Holy Spirit.
It is like attaching your home to the power grid that runs outside your home. When you are tapped into it you can do anything you need to do whether it is a night light, or the forced air to heat and cool your home. However that power is only available where you have tapped into it. If you have no plugs in the basement then the basement remains dark and unusable. Likewise, if you disconnect your home from the 'grid' you lose that power that it provides. So it is with the power we have in our spiritual life because of the Holy Spirit. We choose how much of His power is available, by our choice, to work in our life and circumstances.
Being spirit-filled is not a onetime thing. It does not mean that you need to have the Holy Spirit come into your life over and over. It means that He will supply the power you need as you need it. Let's look at electrical power again for an explanation. You do not need 110 watts of power to run a night light but you need it for your washer. Even though you have that much power available to you for both. You only tap into the amount of power you need for the situation. So it is with being spirit-filled. You have exactly what you need when you need it.
Also, you cannot eat today and get all the nutrition you need to keep going all week. Each day you need to eat to sustain your energy. Each day we need to remain spirit-filled in order to have what we will need for the day. It is a daily choice.
The opening verse is from the Old Testament and tells us that when Christ came He changed everything. Back then you were considered a follower of God by keeping the external rules and rituals. Christianity changed that from rules and rituals into a relationship with God. It became a 'religion' that changed you on the inside that resulted in a change on the outside.
Recognize that you were given the Holy Spirit to stop the ‘ups and downs’ that plague many of us as we try to live the Christian life on our own. He is a real person who you can talk to and share everything with. He is here to teach you. encourage you, guide you and give you all the power you need minute by minute. That is why He it is important to understanding who He is and why we need HimPLEASE ENCOURAGE AUTHOR BELOW LEAVE COMMENT ON ARTICLE AS A MEMBER OR VISITOR
