Pondering infinite universes-
To look at our cosmology philosophically, one is led to ask the famous old question, "Why does something exist rather than nothing?" Since something DOES exist, then why couldn't one then ask the question, "Why doesn't 'anything' exist rather than nothing?", or to put it more concisely, "Why doesn't everything exist rather than nothing? If something does exist, then why can't everything exist? If everything does exist, then we could most definitely enter the "world", or philosophical cosmology, of multiple, infinite universes. I'll add here, that infinite universe Cosmology is the ONLY credible one that can explain scientifically and without the need for an intelligent designer, (a Creator) our own, fine tuned universe. An infinite philosophical cosmology would include infinite possibilities for universes. Universes where only one thing exists, only two things exist , only three...on and on, until we get to the quite complex universes that we like to try to contemplate. But think as hard, or as creatively as we might, we find that we are bound in a universe where we were obviously created by a Creator or an intelligent designer. One where the Creator is what we have come to call perfectly loving and perfectly righteous, and one where this Creator of this universe sent us a Manual for how He expects us to comport ourselves (After all we are His most beloved things that He created in His universe). Of course, this is all philosophical, but quite interesting, I think. It often gives me fidgety fits, when I try and fathom and "explain" such awesome things as a God of the universe. I feel like asking, "What right does my tiny mortal brain have, to fathom such things?
It's almost like I'm trying to shrink an awesome God in my already tiny brain. But God does say in His manual, "Come, let us reason together." Or more importantly,
"If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples, and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free."
John 8:31-32 ESV
This is kind of an inverse, inside out, so to speak, way of explaining why it is, or How it is that "God exists" in this Universe. But here goes. I finally found a decent way to explain this weird thought/theory I have had brewing in my brain for a number of years.
If you were to imagine and contemplate a reality (and I submit it may be true ) a world or "existence", if you will, where every single thing is possible to exist. I mean anything and EVERY THING. If you can fathom it, or dream of its existence, then it can and does, or did, or will exist as a universe all its own. (Would what we call "time" even exist? I guess maybe it would in some theoretical universes.)
Now included in this set of all of these possibilities for universes is the subset of, what we know as God, "exists" AND I suppose, one where "God doesn't exist", along with a zillion other subsets of this, and other ultimate dualities. (When you look at any property of anything, it either exists or it does not...with I guess, zillions , or infinite varying degrees in between, which basically become meaningless in all practicality). Now just by definition (For lack of a better word ), when all things (Possible Universes) are considered, and/or stripped away (by their unsustainability or at least not functioning in a way that we can even understand) then, the only possibility for a Universe such as ours, that stands up under its own power and becomes one that has the...guess what... KING OF KINGS AND (Luckily for us ) RIGHTEOUS, LOVING LORD OF LORDS possibility of "God exists", is one we just happen to find ourselves created in... THAT Universe. (For not all universes would have a "God/creator") Now as for any other possibility: they lose all of their power and relevance because ...see possibility # 1 ( I will call it ), which says "GOD EXISTS " and if you dont like it ...well see possibility# 1. Now luckily for us, and like it or not, possibility # 1 , left with us an instruction manual on what He expects from us (His creation) during this tiny speck of what we call time, in this miniscule part of this particular universe that we ALL find ourselves in.
Of course, a simpler and cleaner and more consistent with Occam's razor, reason for the answer to the question, "Why is there something rather than nothing?", is because a creator God exists, and God always has existed.
And what we do have, in a reality of infinite possibilities, is the Universe God gave to us. A beautifully stable one, that is lovingly restricted by the safeguards of what we have come to call, God's moral laws and God's natural laws, which include what we call the "laws of nature" or the "laws of physics" .
The most relevant question is then, "What do we do with THAT? " Did I mention that there is a Manual? Maybe that Manual tells us how to access those more incredible and infinite and even unfathomable possibilities.
