Jesus commanded them not to tell anyone. But the more he did so, the more they kept talking about it. People were overwhelmed with amazement. “He has done everything well,” they said. “He even makes the deaf hear and the mute speak.” Mark 7:36-37 NIV
In spite of Jesus telling him not to do so, the man kept telling others about that which Jesus had done. And in spite of the crowds reaction and comments, most would just turn away, and eventually an angry mob would be involved in the condemnation of our Lord. Why did the many turn on Him? It is because their hearts were truly not changed. In spite of all they heard and saw, they continued to live their lives according to the will of the flesh. Today is no different than 2000 years ago. Even we who belong to Christ are guilty of committing sin. It is just that we do not live enslaved to sin, and when we do sin we notice sadness within our heart, a knowledge that we have let our Lord down, disobeying Him. We then come to Him for restoration, that which could only exist through the eternal sacrifice He made at Calvary. The world will go on living the way it does. People will hear about Jesus, yet refuse to accept and follow Him. But the heart of the one who is truly open minded will see Christ come knocking at the door. We must share the Good News, that God might knock at potentially accepting hearts.
