Today I would like to bring your attention to events that are going on in the political world, which we need to be aware of in these last days of earth’s history.
In Matthew 24, Jesus told us that we should not be deceived by those saying that Christ has come and He spoke of wars, and rumours of wars, with nation rising against nation, famines, diseases and earthquakes around the world. He likened this to a woman in childbirth and any woman that has had a child knows the pain of giving birth. First the pain is bearable but when the baby is due that pain can be unbearable but after the birth there is joy, so shall we who believe in Jesus receive a place into that joy of eternal life.
The world is going through great changes so we are told to watch and look for the signs of His coming. We are not to be asleep to what is happening around us. The world and its leaders are in a state of confusion. How apt is it to call these days Babylon. You have heard the expression to babel; well this expression comes from Babylon meaning confusion. As I said earlier, we should all be watchers but most of all Heralds of the gospel.
The Time of Noah
We are messengers of hope to a dying world. Jesus tells us in (Matthew 24:38-44),that as it was in the days of Noah, so shall it be at the end of days.
The people of Noah’s time, (Genesis 6&7),where going about their business. There were eating, drinking, playing and marrying one another as if they had all the time in the world.
Noah had told them of a coming flood but they didn’t believe him. They had closed their ears to his pleading to change their ways. They had gone so far from the precepts of God, turning their back on His commandments and following their own lusts. They were so evil that God decided enough was enough. Their cup of debauchery was full to the top. Therefore they were about to pay the ultimate penalty of death. God had been very patient with them over the 120 years of pleading by Noah. He and his family had been made outcasts from society. They were seen as lunatics, building a boat where there was no water. They people saw an old man and his family working hard in the Sun and many stood around ridiculing them. Continuing with their immoral lifestyle right up to the day the rains came.
Is there any difference for Christian’s preaching the gospel today? How many outside the Church listen to the preaching of the messengers sent into the field. From many, they are considered delusional or religious fanatics for believing in a creator God. After all, hasn’t it been proven by science that we evolved over millions of years?
Destruction of the 10 Commandments
(See Exodus 20 & Deuteronomy 5)
As each one of God’s commandments have been destroyed by governments legislating to legalise what He condemns, it will not be long before He says once again – enough is enough and destroys the people of this world who follow their own personal lusts but this time it will not be by water, but by fire.
Today we are seeing some fulfilment of Jesus prophecy. Many wars have and are being waged around the world and the love of money is endemic. Despite all our technology, the world is no different from Noah’s day.
We are seeing the beginning of secular authority police enforcing religious beliefs of one religion against another. An MP has been put in charge of looking into Islamaphobia and it will be up to him to decide what is acceptable to say or not to say about Islam.
A few weeks ago two police officers handcuffed a man preaching Christ on the street and took him far away from the area, in which he was preaching, yet others are allowed to preach hatred on our streets. We have also seen a move towards the removal of assemblies in schools, where pray is said before the school day starts. Some parents are demanding their children be removed from these assemblies or they be scrapped altogether. Political correctness to the point of absurdity goes on and on. Freedom of speech or belief, which contradicts the law is being used to silence common sense and decency.
A few weeks ago a bus driver was suspended for saying he didn’t want to drive a bus with a rainbow flag advertisement. His rights and belief’s were denied. Those who believe in morality are being punished for disagreeing with the current trend of normalising what God has condemned.
Preoccupation with Politics
Many of us have become so pre-occupied with the politics of this country it has caused divisions amongst family members and indeed amongst Church members who are on one side or the other of the political debate.
The prophet Daniel, in Chapter 2, told us that countries would come and go on the stage of this world and wars would be fought on battlefields to change countries boundaries and take over the minds and will of people who do not conform to the conquering armies philosophies or gods.
Wars have happened many times since Jesus told us there would be wars and rumours of wars around the world. Because of the involvement of western countries in the Middle East, millions have been displaced by war. As a consequence of these wars, mass migration has resulted in thousands losing their homes and possessions and many have lost their lives. Is it any wonder they want to flee to a safer place? Immigration was never a major issue in most western countries when it was controlled and in Great Britain we always prided ourselves in taking in the oppressed. However, because of current immigration policies, which the average citizen has no control over, we are seeing a rapid change in culture in towns and cities and this has created a climate of fear, which has given rise to more extreme right wing views and actions. Unless some checks and balances are made, we could be heading for a very dangerous and volatile future.
Today’s Smart Tools
With more and more people involved in verbalizing their political opinions on social media via Twitter, Facebook, Snapchat or other social media platforms, intolerance of others views are becoming prevalent.
Differences of opinion should be a good thing because it helps us learn from one another. We cannot browbeat someone into seeing our point of view and we must never use violence of words or deeds to someone who cannot see things as we see them. When we speak of Jesus, those who do not believe in Him will confront us and many will want to hurt us just as they did with Jesus and the Apostles. Preaching Christ today can be dangerous and may soon become illegal.
Should we therefore be concerned about the political climate today or become involved in worldly events? Should we spread our political beliefs to others with different politics?
Nobody can predict the future, so all the negative scaremongering on social media is just that – scaremongering but sadly many actually believe what is written in the papers or said on the media. Speculation and lies to some becomes truth to others, but we as Christians should be wiser than those who are not spiritual minded because we know that only God can foretell what is to come and only God is in control of world affairs. He has given only limited authority to Satan and his angels.
Ellen G White1wrote on June 16 1899, in her book, The Spirit of Prophecy, Counsels Relating to Church-State Relationships, the following article to schools and institutions in America:
“Those who have charge of our institutions and our schools should guard themselves diligently, lest by their words and sentiments they lead the student to false paths. Those who teach the bible in our churches and in our schools are not at liberty to unite in making apparent their prejudices for or against political men or measures, because by so doing they stir up the minds of others, leading each to advocate his favourite theory. There are among those professing to believe in present truth some who will thus be stirred up to express their sentiments and political preferences, so that division will be brought into the church.”
Even though Ellen White was addressing this to schools and Institutions, this can easily be applicable to each one of us, today, especially in this technological age where Facebook and Twitter are used by us to voice our political preferences to one another. The last paragraph of her statement shows what professing political preferences can cause: She says: “There are among those professing to believe in present truth, some who will be stirred up to express their sentiments and political preferences so that division will be brought into the church.”
She goes on to say:
“The Lord would have His people bury political questions…we cannot safely vote for political parties because we do no really know who we are voting for and we cannot with safety take part in any political schemes. We cannot labour to please men who will usetheir influences to repress religious liberty and to set in operation oppressive measures to lead or compel their fellow men to keep Sunday as the Sabbath.
What are we to do asks Mrs White:
“Let political questions alone”, she says. She even advocates the removal of teachers in both church and schools who are zealous with their political views.
“In the name of the Lord I would say to teachers attend to your appointed work - you are not called upon by God to engage in politics.”
Should we therefore cast our vote for a candidate in an election?
When writing from Australia in 1898 Mrs White wrote:
“We are not as a people to become mixed up with political questions…be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelieves in political strife, nor bind with them in their attachments…keep your voting to yourself. Do not feel it your duty to urge everyone to do as you do.” –Selected Messages, book2 pp 336-337.
Yes we can vote, she says, but we should not be encouraging others to vote as we have. They must make up their own minds and be moved by their own conscience.
Today it isn’t easy to remove ourselves from the politics of the world. We have instant news flashes on our mobile phones and tables, hourly on the radio and TV and when we do not like something we see or hear it is difficult not to text a comment on the media we have in front of us.
As Christian’s we are told to be separate from the world yet many of us get involved in the never-ending stream of political views. Of course it is not wrong to have a view about the politics of our country but should it become an obsession, where it detracts from our Christian duty of preaching the Gospel of Christ, we need to step back and review our involvement.
Ellen White says the three principles we should follow are:
- We are always to vote on the side of temperance and virtue.
- The decision to vote for candidates is a personal decision. If we vote we are to keep our voting to ourselves and not to feel it our duty to urge everyone to vote as we have and
- We are to stand free from political strife and corruption.
She did not rule out the holding of public office, however she qualified this by saying:
“Selfish motives are to be ruled out and the office holder is to remember always that temporal claims and interests are to be held in subjection to the higher claims of the Gospel of Christ.”
In the past there have been members of my Church who have held political offices.
Elder William C Gage2was elected Mayor of the City of Battle Creek – Review and Herald, April 11, 1882, and there have been many others.
On September 13, 1928, Elder F M Wilcox3wrote in the Review and Herald the following article:
“The Seventh Day Adventist Church does not seek to dictate to its members as to how they should vote or whether or not they should vote at all. It is left for each one to act on his own judgment, in the fear of God. We have been told by the servant of the Lord that we should not link up with political parties, that we should not agitate political questions in our schools or institutions. On the other hand, we have been instructed by the same authority that when certain moral issues, such as prohibition are involved, the advocates of temperance fail to do their whole duty unless they exert their influences by precept and example – by voice and pen and vote – in favour of total abstinence. This instruction is not mandatory; it is left for each one to determine for himself what he shall do. Whilst individual members of the church have the right to cast their vote, the Church should be entirely aloof from politics….”
Britain has for centuries upheld the values of religious freedom - freedom to express religious and political views, and to accept those who are not Christian or have different political view to our own. However, as we are now moving towards an intolerant world where religious views are attempting to merge and to discard the doctrines of Jesus, we must pray for discernment and take wise council, otherwise we too will be swept up with the fever of madness that is pervading millions in the world today, especially those who have no spiritual understanding but are purely carnal in nature.
Are you aware that the Muslim Council of Great Britain is calling upon our Government to pass legislation that will give their religion protection from criticism by non-Muslims? Should this be granted it will be the first step towards a religious political union that has not been seen since the dark ages and a precedence will be set to restrict open discussion between any religious groups.
Did you also know that in America, they are about to pass a law that will ban a person from criticising the Jews? Again, just as with the Muslims in the UK, any legislation that favours a particular religion will do untold damage to freedom of speech.
The 7 Laws of Noah (Noahide Laws)4
Have you heard of 7 laws of Noah, which are called the ‘Noahide laws? According to the Jews, God gave these laws to Adam and Eve, and later to Moses and they are binding on all mankind. They are part of the Jewish Torah.
America has agreed to implement these laws, which according to the Jewish religion, a person can only enter heaven if they keep these laws.
Let’s have a look at them:
- Do not profane God’s Oneness in any way. (Acknowledge there is but a single God.)
- Do not curse your Creator (No matter how angry don’t take it out on God.)
- Do not Murder. (Human life is valuable and if anyone destroys a human life they destroy the world.)
- Do not eat a limb of a living animal. (Respect God’s creatures and bring no hurt or pain on them.)
- Do not steal. (Whatever benefits you get in this world, don’t get them at the expense of others.)
- Harness and channel the human libido. (Insets, Adultery, Rape, Homosexuality is forbidden. Sexuality is the fountain of life so the sexual act between a man and a woman is holy and not to be abused or debased, which is destructive to the human being.)
- Establish courts of law and ensure justice in the world. (Every small act of justice restores harmony in the world and synchronises it with God’s order of things. We must keep the law of our land to keep the country stable.)
Well, they sound good and some might say they are similar to the 10 Commandments given to Moses. If Moses received these laws alongside the 10 Commandments, then why are they not included in Exodus or Deuteronomy, and why two sets of laws? You can see from the first commandment in the Noahide laws is to worship only one God. There is no room for a ‘Triune’ God, a Son - Jesus Christ and a Holy Spirit; therefore every Christian is breaking the first Noahide law.
There is also no mention of the Sabbath, on which God rested at Creation and gave us the day of rest so that we would remember He is the God of the Worlds. What sticks out to me most apart from no room for Jesus is that to get into heaven, WE must, by our OWN efforts, keep these laws or be excluded from eternal life. There is no room for faith or for Jesus’ sacrifice. Like the Muslim faith, humans are to climb the ladder to God by making a conscious effort to follow these laws. We are to work hard to attain paradise or God will obliterate us from this world and the next.
One World Religion
We know there has to be a coming together of religions before Jesus can return. The tentacles of the movements to make this happen are many and these laws are just one of them.
US President Ronald Reagan5
In1987 the US President Ronald Reagan signed a proclamation speaking of “The historical tradition of ethical values and principles which have been the bedrock of civilization since creation.” Whilst signing the acceptance of the Noahide laws for America.
The Johnson Amendment6
Donald Trump has now removed one of the pillars that kept church and state separate. The Johnson amendment was a provision in the US tax code – set up in 1954, which prohibits all non-profit organisations from endorsing or opposing political candidates. Trump has argued that it restricts the free speech of churches or other religious groups. As a consequence of the removal of this law, churches and religious organisations will be able to promote political agendas and influence their congregation to vote the way their priests or pastors want them to. This will have a profound effect on those religious organisations who advocate the keeping of Sunday as a day of rest. They will now have a political voice to push this religious agenda through US legislation.
Sunday Laws7
With the growing call in Europe to protect Sunday as a day of rest, the Seventh Day Adventist church has been lobbying against legislation, but we all know for prophecy to be fulfilled, my church will not succeed in stopping the growing movement of the ‘Keep Sunday Special’ campaign in both Europe and the USA.
Sharia Law in Germany8
Muslims in Germany have gained a victory in the city of Wuppertal, where unofficial Sharia police are now allowed to patrol the streets and call upon all Muslims and non-Muslims to attend mosques and for non-Muslims to give up their western lifestyle. Why a judge in Wuppertal has allowed this to happen is difficult to understand, however this is just one step closer to secular authority bowing to religious pressure and using the law of the land to give special privileges to a religious group.
The Pope
The Pope is an advocate of political and church union because it will ensure he is placed in a much more powerful position on the world stage. Pope Francis knows that church and politics should not supposed mix, but he is a clever operator and knows that baby steps towards political and church union are the way forward. The Roman Catholic Church has, however, had a long history of engagement with worldly politics.
Jesus was executed by secular and religious authorities because he was seen as a threat to public order. For the first four centuries Christians were a fringe sect who where persecuted by the civil authorities because of their devotion to Christ, which Rome saw as a challenge to their emperors divine status. However, just 400 hundred years after Jesus birth, the Emperor Constantine made Christianity legal paving the way for it to become the official religion of the Roman Empire. A thousand years later the Catholic Church allied itself to the monarchs of Europe, creating, through the feudal system, its own ‘World Order’ in which their religion was almost a theocracy.
Now don’t get me wrong when I speak of the Roman Catholic Church. I am not talking about those who attend the Catholic Church. I am talking about the system that controls their beliefs. Many Roman Catholics, who attend church regularly and are a credit to their religion. It is these that will leave their church and join those who love Jesus prior to his coming to take them to heaven and there will be many from other churches that will join them. There will be no religion in the next world; all will be of one mind.
A.T. Jones9
At a camp meeting in Topeka on May 11th, 1889, in a morning lecture, A. T. Jones preached a sermon on the Apostles being sent to preach the gospel to bring the people back into God’s government, but for the Roman government, Jones said: “In eyes of Rome’s supreme government it the preservation of the state that was the most important and this idea is the prominent one today. According to this way of thinking, men cannot claim the right to worship God according to their own idea’s which go against the state.” He went on to say that we know God has set limitations on the scope of power of the state and on mankind’s relationship to one another. Therefore, when we are compelled to worship in a ‘national religion’ it will be pagan – even though it claims to be Christian. Jones continued: “When the protestant faith amalgamates with the catholic faith it will be a paganized Christianity.”
So the papal authorities, when it has supreme power will say that a man’s belief cannot be made an excuse for disobeying the law – what law? Not the 10 commandments but Church State law.
The Lateran Treaty10
After years in the wilderness, in 1926 Benito Mussolini granted the Roman Catholic Church its own territory known today as Vatican City in return for a papal pledge of political neutrality. Since that time papal authorities have reneged on this pledge and have been aligning themselves with secular authorities to increase their presence on the stage of politics.
President Ronald Regan’s Collaboration with the Pope11
John Paul II met many times with President Regan both of whom shared a hatred of communism, which controlled the Pope’s native Poland. Working covertly together they used the trades union ‘Solidarity’ as a lever to trigger the collapse of communism across Eastern Europe. America provided the funds and the equipment and Catholic priests helped move supplies and carry messages.
President Obama and the Pope12
After private discussions with the President, the Pope ordered Vatican diplomats to broker secret peace talks between the US and Cuba. When the talks, which were held in Canada faltered, Pope Francis personally offered to act as a guarantor of the good faith of each side to restart them.
More Political Power to the Pope13
We can see how much political power the Pope is regaining. Earlier this month he summoned the Ambassadors of 183 countries to the Vatican and addressed them on his political agenda for the year. He recalled Pope Paul VI’s historic speech to the United Nations in 1965, which called for action in four key international areas – action which he believes is still very much needed today if peace is to be brought to our troubled world to do this, the pope believes that
National courts must take second place and must be controlled by a central legal system to implement laws that override any nation’s law making.
Have the EU taking the Pope’s comments and placed them on their agenda for a united Europe?
The Common Good14
The Pope told the diplomats, “to rethink our common destiny”. He says he is worried that the US and Russia might be about to revive the international arms race "with increasingly sophisticated and destructive weapons". On Climate Change, he reiterated, “we need to rethink our relationship with our planet"and called for a more decisive commitment by all nations to tackle global warming.
Is the Pope formulating the EU agenda?
As the Pope, who is supposed to be the ‘spiritual’ head of millions of Christians, you would think he would put his trust in God and give words of spiritual comfort. NO. The common destiny he is thinking of is not the one that includes the return of our Lord Jesus Christ to retake the world stolen from Satan. His common destiny is one of centralised and combined religion and political power, where he is the religious head of a one-world government, which controls all aspects of our lives, both secular and spiritual.
Climate Change15
Our children are being taught that humanity is destroying the planet. Whilst this may be in part true, because of the destruction of the rain forests, humanity cannot control the weather. By creating fear of earth’s imminent destruction, millions are being manipulated by the media to believe the world’s climate will become so severe if we don’t do something soon – like throw millions of pounds into the pockets of the energy companies, we will all be blown up or frozen to death.
The world will end one day but it will not be humans that cause it through weather change. The Bible tells us that God will destroy the planet at the time of his choosing and anything we do to try and save it is like putting a small sticking plaster on a massive wound. No matter how much we try and save our planet, we are not its masters. We are only stewards who have temporary responsibility to look after this world. God owns the planet and the worlds above in the universe. He is being side-lined by greed for worldly wealth by men and women who are controlled by unseen forces of evil, helping Satan and his fallen angels to forward his futile attempt to keep this planet for himself. Satan has promised them wealth and power and ‘to be like god’s knowing good and evil’. (Genesis 3:5)
Nothing has changed since the devil usurped this planet from Adam and eve. The train is still on the rail track heading for destruction and millions are blinded by the view from the window. As the beautiful scenery passes them by and they go about their daily lives giving no thought to their spiritual destination, they will reach the end of the track and fall into the canyon of destruction along with Satan and his angels, where they will be burned to ashes.(Malachi 4:3)
Keep Watch
As the Pope increases his power, we should be alert to the danger of church and state being combined again. Unity of church and state with the Pope as the head of all religion will use secular authority to enforce his demands on the people. According to Revelation 13, he is the mainplayer on the stage of the political world. We are told the dragon gave the beast great power and his seat with great authority. We should remember that the Pope is a very clever man but first and foremost he is a Jesuit, whose religious views and doctrines remain routed in Catholicism.
Coming Together of Nations
Anyone who has read the book of Daniel will know that we are now at the feet of Nebuchadnezzar’s statues toes. (Daniel 2:42). There has to be a coming together of nation’s politics for the common good, as the Pope calls it. We must know that to him and his church, Bible doctrines are of secondary importance. It is only the mother church’s doctrines that count and unity of religion can only happen with secular authority enforcing it.
The Church of Rome
The following a quote from the Roman Catholic Second Vatican Council:
“The Roman Catholic Church does not accept the bible as the only source of truth…or divine truth. It is not from scripture alone but also sacred tradition.”
This contradicts timothy 2 Timothy 3:16-17 and 2 Peter 1:20, which say:
‘ALLScripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.’
‘Knowing this first, that NOprophecy of the Scripture is of any private interpretation. For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man, but holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit.’
Can anyone tell me where in the Bible it says that the sacred tradition of any church is to be placed on the same playing field of inspiration as the Bible?
God’s Laws rejected by Governments
Isaid at the beginning we are close to the end of time. We can see that secular authority is throwing out the 10 commandments, which contain the Sabbath and replacing them with the 7 Noahide laws, which the Jews believe are God’s laws for humanity to keep as a means of getting into heaven. The Jewish nation has always rejected the idea that Jesus was the Messiah or that he rose from the dead. They are determined to ensure that His name is never uttered for their coming Messiah. We know Satan will come in the disguise of Christ, therefore by replacing the 10 commandments, it will ensure the people are lulled into a false sense of hope of a Messiah who will come and be accepted by all the world as Christ. We also know that secular authority will again be the enforcing arm of the Church of Rome to ensure nobody worships God without the blessing of the mother church.
The Three Angels Messages16
Seventh Day Adventists have been given the last message to preach to the world to prepare people for the second coming of Jesus. Will the people listen? Just as Jesus first advent, there was an air of expectation but many closed their eyes and ears and rejected their inner feelings of prompting by the Holy Spirit. The message of the three angels is a call to people to be ready and as we get closer to the end we must all shout the message from the rooftops before it’s too late.
It is not our duty to be involved in politics; it is our duty to give glory to God and to follow His Commandments. Whatever political view you have it must not become an obsession that will divide. We can vote with our conscience, we can have a political view but if that view causes us to hate, divide or separate from those with whom we should be talking about God’s love, then we will be responsible for chasing them away from God because of politics. We must first be messengers of God. If we are not, then how can we promote God’s love dissenting with each other about politics? Let the politicians, who have been put there by God, do what they have to do and let us as Christians promote God’s message to a dying world. Let us plant the seed of hope and the Holy Spirit will water the ground.
The Wickedness of People Today
Not much as changed over the centuries since the days of Noah. We may have more technology, but we are still breaking the 10 commandments. It is the wickedness of the people that will again be the cause of the coming divine judgment. Breaking God’s laws, which were made between Abraham and God to be everlasting through Abraham’s seed has been broken by men that once called upon God but now pass laws that reject Him.
Ecclesiastes 12:13.
Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep His commandments: for this is the whole duty of man. For God shall bring every work into judgement, with every secret thing, whether it is good or whether it be evil.
When the commandments of God have been almost obliterated from governments, the cup of Gods indignation will be completely filled and He will close earth’s time. Jesus will stand before the father and say “It is finished”.
May that day come soon?
Amen
