Who’s Crouching at the Door?
By Robert Schaetzle
“If you do well, will not your countenance be lifted up? And if you do not do well, sin is crouching at the door; and its desire is for you, but you must master it.”
The scene is when Cain was disturbed because his brothers offering was accepted by God as a sacrifice, and Cain felt rejected.
How many times in our life have we too… felt a rejection or passed over when promotions were give and you felt left out? Many times I was rejected when submitting essays or devotionals to publishers and the reply was; “Sorry, but we can’t use this at this time.”
Many times have we been told to ‘keep on keep’n on.’ I remember years ago when I purposely sought out additional training and instruction for a job position, yet someone else was given the position.
It becomes Satan’s opportunity to make you think; ‘you’re not worthy or good enough,’ rather than seek to recognize our Lord has something else that you’re more suited for.
Cain felt left out and alone, and became ‘easy mad’ as my dad would share with me growing up about things disturbing.
God instructed Cain; ‘But you must master it.’ In other words, are we wise enough to understand and recognize how to follow ‘God’s Footprints’ to lead and provide?
Most certainly we’re challenged by our Lord to follow Him, to let Him provide and make provision, to accommodate what He knows to be essential and necessary where we are, for the season of life we’re in.
‘Father, teach us to do well that the power of the flesh not allow bitterness to crouch at the door of our heart. AMEN’
