Rahab, devoted Lover of the Bridegroom-
The book of Joshua in the Bible has as one of its most prevailing themes the idea of devotion. More specifically, this dominating theme is God's devotion to His people. But also the book is about compelling US to choose to have a devotion to Him AND His chosen people over having a devotion to the things of the world and the "powers of the world".
The most often thought of aspect in regards to the Book of Joshua is how God used Joshua's obedience to His instructions for bringing down the walls of Jericho and conquering the city. BUT upon closer study comes an awareness that THAT aspect of the story is almost a secondary story line. The Bible seems to shine a much brighter light, in my opinion, on Rahab the prostitute.
A prostitute who was VERY aware of God's works, and what He was doing among God's people (the Israelites),and went on to show amazing devotion to the Lord.
Is this prostitute, who went on to be saved from destruction, really a "non- spiritually prostituted" woman who is an early idiomatic representation of the "Bridegroom's" Bride of Christ?
Not only does this emphasized narrative of Rahab's "deal" of obedience and devotion to God's people illustrate how physical sins are subservient to spiritual sins, but in the Rahab story, her sins of prostitution aren't made into an issue at all. (Not that I am somehow condoning this kind of sin.)
It seems obvious that God is using THIS woman in a different kind of way to illustrate a more serious sin for all of us. That sin being spiritual prostitution. Probably even asking us a question as to the WHO and the WHAT it is that our hearts and allegiances are devoted to.
In the story, Rahab is offered a deal to choose between staying loyal to the works of God's chosen people, while keeping hushed to her fellow citizens of Jericho, and working to save herself and her family God's way. Or her other choice, was to spiritually prostitute herself or "sell out" to her worldly rulers that were within the safe confines of her walled in city. With this choice she would expose the lurking "conspiracy" of God's sent spies (the outsiders), and go on to save her own comfortable "status quo" and that of the rulers and establishment powers of her city.
In this modern age, who is it that is most often thought of as "spiritual Prostitutes? Who is it that constantly sell themselves out for their own physical safety and security? Of course, an obvious answer to this question is our politicians, our world leaders and the corporate elite. Perhaps represented in the Joshua story as those people who were not obedient to God's law and who tried keeping the plunder of gold and silver for themselves. But an even more concerning modern prostitute is, unfortunately, the modern church.
The church that has given itself over to physical comforts and has cozied up to "the state" in worldliness. The church that has built itself into a mega (501C3) Corporation, filling seats and selling fire insurance. Or worse yet, a church selling worldly prosperity or a "blab and grab" doctrine, rather than building disciples of Jesus. As a result, the church has abrogated many of its responsibilities, and disobeys the laws of God and the movement of the Kingdom of God.
It's kind of a strange coming full circle, I think, that in these modern days, the prostitute Church is now sitting quietly in the safe confines of its walled off city (a church building), when it SHOULD be screaming loudly through the pews, and from its pulpits, to expose the lurking enemy (the people of Satan who are slinking around in the dark, planning a takeover of God's people). In this case, "Gods people" are really ALL of God's Creation, which IS, in fact, ALL of humanity. Humanity, which is being assaulted on every level to be turned into a new Transhuman creature, or in its current transitory form, the "zombie*".
I'll close by saying that the idea of the prostituted church plays off interestingly against the Biblical idiom of Jesus, "the Bridegroom", returning for His "unblemished Bride". Perhaps, to totally fulfill the circle, could the Church's walls be coming down soon?
* My own definition of a zombie is quite different than what is perpetrated by the mainstream culture. I talk about it quite a bit in my writings, but I forget that most peoples' perceptions of these creatures is quite different than mine.
In my view basically, zombies are the dumbed down (to varying degrees) masses of real people who don't wish to think anymore. To be kind of a "walking dead" that have given themselves over to Satan's control.
I really believe that this "zombiedom", is in fact, a crucial transitioning "creature" in Satan's plans of Transhumanism. I lalso think that many in the power elite get some kind of perverse pleasure in looking on people in a similar zombie light, in much the same way as I try to express, except they actually hate humanity and DON'T want to wake them up. I really think that they support and perpetuate this zombie culture in the "arts" because they think that they are somehow making fun of humanity in this way, and are sickly and Satanically enjoying it.
