“He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall remain stable” (Psa 91:1 AMP)
Perhaps no other man pursued God with intense fervency like David. Largely, David accomplished this through persistent meditation, "Then King David went in and sat before the Lord"(2 Sam 2:18). That is, he cultivated the discipline of silence and the art of prayerful waiting. Not the emptying of his mind, but focusing thoughts exclusively on God. Gathering mental poise by intentional concentration, he pondered God’s truth. While engaged, King David received a right view of himself. Then his troubles seemed tiny compared to God’s grandness (Psalm 8). Even though afraid of Saul’s murderous attempts, he found solace and wholeness in God’s promises. Therefore, he hoped in God alone and trusted God’s opinion of him. Subsequently, the good work God began in David came to fruition (Phil 1:6).
Similar to David, when we occupy a position of lowliness, we hold session with the Highest. And as we commune together, permanent truths incubate within us. If we tarry consistently or ‘relax before the Lord’, problems diminish and humility enlarges our hearts, “In quietness and confidence is our strength” (Isa 30:15). Furthermore, giving ourselves in total surrender to God fulfills Jesus’ prayer in John 17:22. Jesus prayed to his Father, “that they may be one as we are one”. In such an atmosphere, bodies and minds are healed.
No doubt listening rather than speaking, refreshes our spirits. As if God pulls a plug that drains all of our anxieties. Eventually, our doubts are replaced with solid beliefs and enlightens our understanding. Most of all, through the Holy Spirit, God lives within us, embedded into our deepest cores.
Precious Father, empower us to just ‘be’ with you. To have no hidden agendas. Only to enjoy you quietly, without speaking, asking, singing, or working. Amen.
