"How sweet are your words to my taste, sweeter than honey to my mouth." Psalm 119:103
It would do well for each and every one of us to evaluate the depth, intensity, fervour and passion of our love for Christ.
How much do we really love Him? Do we look at Him only as God to be feared, respected and worshipped or do we see Him as someone very close to us, our best friend, our confidante, someone whom we can rush to at any time with our list of both joys and trials and know that He is always waiting for us to turn to Him?
I was listening to a testimony given by a young lady who recounts on how her love for God is a passionate one where she says that while on earth she is engaged to Christ and the day she reaches Heaven she will be His bride in the great wedding feast promised by the Lord.
This set me thinking as to do we look forward to the coming of Christ like a young bride anticipating the glories of love where she will at last be with her lover forever.
Is our waiting period filled with an eagerness to welcome that day with a rushed joy when it dawns?
Do we rejoice at the thought of being in His presence at last?
Would we have been ready to be a human shield to have protected Him from the agony he underwent on our behalf?
Are our hearts being prepared and filled with a magnanimous love to partake in the Wedding Feast of the Lamb?
Would we implore the heavens to give Him unto us to be at His side for all times?
Does His words stir and inflame our hearts with a blazing warmth?
Do we really believe that the best can be sought and found only by His love which is all we ever need?
There is a beautiful song of a lover pleading and begging the heavens to breathe life back into his lover who seemed to have given up her breath. He cries and hugs her still form to himself beseeching her to come back from the heavens. He prays and prays until God concedes and the woman is restored back to life. Such passionate and strong love that can conquer and overcome even death itself!
We know that the Church is the bride of Christ and we the people form the Church. Christ will take us unto Himself just as a bridegroom takes his bride to be at his side. Wedding preparations are always filled with joy, enthusiasm and great expectancy. Our pilgrim life on earth is the time for preparing for this great feast.
As Jesus himself said in Matthew 22:11-14 that only those who are wearing the wedding attire will be allowed into the wedding feast as many are invited but few are chosen.
Also in Matthew 25 : 1-13; we know that only those maidens whose lamps were lit could enter inside with the bridegroom.
Are we keeping our lamps lit in a flame that will never run out of oil?
Are we sewing together our attire to be worn at this great wedding banquet?
We need to start now because the only way to do all this is by living the values of the Gospel with the help and guidance of the Holy Spirit.
The best which is awaited will come all of a sudden. There will be nothing more better than this very best!
The Book of Revelation says it all. Ch.19:7-8 speaks about the Wedding feast; "For the time has come for the wedding of the Lamb, and his bride has prepared herself for it. She has been given clean shining linen to wear." The linen here is referred to the good deeds of God's people.
We further read in Ch.21 that the Holy City, the New Jerusalem coming down out of heaven from God, will be prepared and ready like a bride dressed in her wedding gown to meet her husband who is Christ. This bride will be a city which will shine like a precious stone, like a jasper clear as crystal. It will have a great high wall with twelve gates and twelve angels in charge of the gates. On the gates will be written the names of the twelve tribes of Israel. Only those whose names are written in the Lamb's book of the living will enter the city whose gates will stand open all day as there will be no night in this city.
May we all be found worthy to walk through the gates of this Holy City as the bride of Christ to dwell with Him for eternal ages.
May we look forward to this One great Wedding Feast which will last for an eternal lifetime.
