LIFE’S POSSESSIONS IN A TRASH BAG
Freelance writer Lupie Riley
Thought: What would you choose to take if you had five minutes to evacuate your home? This is the choice thousands had to make because of the horrific devastation from hurricane Harvey. Television and tech devices made it possible to witness the mayhem first hand as the storm played out. It left thousands homeless, losing all of their personal possessions and their houses and over 80% of them had no flood insurance. It reminded me of Lot and his family when they were ushered out of Sodom before judgment fell upon the city with fire and brimstone. Lot’s wife was still attached to the life she was leaving behind and looking back was turned into a statue of salt.
The people of Texas had to decide what was most important to them as the storm raged on. The Black Forest fire on June 11, 2013 also left its people scrambling to grab whatever was of value to them, loading it into a trash bag or car.
Where do we place our priorities? Is it in stuff and things or family and friends? If the rapture (taking out of born again Christians) happened this year are we ready to leave everything behind and not look back? Is your treasures in heaven where moth nor rust corrupt or thieves do not break through and steal? Those are serious questions we should ask ourselves as we witness the events taking place in the South. We should be eagerly awaiting the Lord’s return when he takes us out of this world before the seven-year tribulation and not stand ashamed before Him as we see him as He is. Maranatha
Prayer: Father God, thank you for the opportunity I have through this devastating storm to evaluate what’s most important to me. I can now leave all of the worldly things behind and look forward with hope in my heart to the great event in the sky where I will meet the God I worship,King Jesus, and live with you forever. Amen
Verse: Math. 25:35-40 “ “Then I, the King, shall say to those at my right, ‘Come, blessed of my Father into the Kingdom prepared for you from the founding of the world. For I was hungry and you fed me; I was thirsty and you gave me water; I was a stranger and you invited me into your homes; naked and you clothed me; sick and in prison, and you visited me. Then these righteous ones will reply, Sir, when did we ever see you hungry and feed you? Or thirsty and give you anything to drink? Or a stranger and help you? Or naked and clothed you? When did we ever see you sick or in prison and visit you?
And I, the King, will tell them, “ When you did it to these my brothers you were doing it to me!”
