"For it is written: “He will command his angels concerning you to guard you carefully," (Luke 4:10)
This blog actually started with my church day-dreaming. I was listening to another of our pastor's boring sermons when I apparently fell asleep, as he was addressing the topic of heaven and guarding angels, a topic that I had always failed to believe.
Let me preference my opening comment by the fact that I was not very proud of my conduct that particular Sunday morning, and having to work the grave yard shift the night before, was actually no excuse. I would have prayed for forgiveness. However, the result of this morning's snooze brought with it lasting results in my spiritual life. Just as my pastor was describing Heaven, I suddenly found myself in the midst of it all, being there.
This was the most awesome place! Words cannot ever fully describe its decor. There were no sun or moon present. It had no need of artificial lighting, as it was lit by the glory of God. The walls were made of jasper and the entire area was of pure gold, as pure as glass. The foundation was decorated with every kind of precious stone. Its streets were paved with pure shiny gold, and the gates of the city were lined with gold inlayed with pure, precious stones.
I happened to notice no gates were shut or locked as there was no night there, only day. Nothing, nor nobody who is impure would ever enter these gates. There were no physical structures of worship, as the Lord God was actually the church, the One and Only on the throne to be worshipped.
As I traveled about, I found a strange situation. There was a huge room which had a map outline on the floor. This was a map of the world and reached endlessly, as I couldn't see its end.
Sitting on this map were what appeared to be millions of angels. They were situated in groups on the various areas of the world, as if to be deep in thought or in study. Each angel was holding a scroll filled with instructions and names. As I watched, occasionally one or more angels in a particular group would stand up and just disappear.
My next thought was to locate America, my state, my city and hopefully my home. As I moved in closer to the map of USA it seemed that the angel band sitting there was deep in discussion. Let me just move closer and maybe I can eavesdrop.
The discussion on the map of America seemed to center around the current worldly life style and the changes that have occurred over a period of time. The one angel sitting in the middle of the group, who seemed to be the head angel, quoted several mottos such as "America, the land of the free and the home of the brave" and "In God we trust." He then said that Satan has made these mottos no longer effective within the Christian community, backing up his comments by emphasizing many Scripture verses.
He tempts them to lie (Acts 5:3), he accuses and slanders them (Rev 12:10), he hinders their work (I Thess. 2:18), he uses demons to attempt to defeat them (Eph. 6:11-12), he tempts them to immorality (1 Cor. 7:5), he sows tares among them (Matt. 13:38-39) and he incites persecutions against them (Rev 2:10).
Then, the head angel seemed to close his dissertation by giving the other angels a certain charge, “Go to earth, to America and reverse this trend. Bring the country back to the Father's godly principles. Stir up an old-time revival spirit within God's church and His people. Then report to me forthwith. With that said, these millions of angels suddenly disappeared.
After miles of walking and searching, I was able to locate my state, my city and my home address. Surprisingly, there were no angels gathered around my home marking. The only thing visible was a large tag that read, "On Assignment."
What could be the meaning of this notice? Were there angels assigned to my household? If so, what was the need of such angelic characters? I hadn't done anything wrong, I quickly surmised.
Nonetheless, my heavenly visit was quickly terminated that day. I happened to wake up, just when our pastor was giving his benediction. As our congregation was leaving, and as the pastor came walking by, he simply looked at me, winked and asked if I had enjoyed my nap. Wow, was I embarrassed! I just had to ask him if I might come by his church study and chat. Giving me the nod, he invited me to come by the next day, which I did.
"Pastor, I am so embarrassed, I have no excuse. I just didn't believe your remarks regarding Heaven and angels. I've never believed that stuff.”
"I understand, my child, oftentimes some Bible truths are a little hard to digest,” said the pastor.
"I don't mind telling you now, my church dream yesterday certainly made a believer of me. Let me just tell you about it. You see, Pastor, I was caught up into Heaven, and what a surprise! Please tell me what all this meant."
"Well, you know now how the Apostle Paul must have felt," he replied with a smile. (II Cor. 12:2-4) Then very patiently my pastor explained my dream.
“Was God speaking to you, my son? Maybe so in your dream. You see, God is very much concerned with the state of our affairs, especially we Christians. For we are all that He has down here on earth to get His message out, and in some respects we have failed Him. We must all get involved; involved in our community, in our government, in our work place, in our homes, and yes, in our churches.” Yes, we do have ANGELS AMONGST US my child.
The pastor then closed his talk with some very nice scripture verses. (Matt 28:18-20) (Acts 1:8) We then ended our little discussion, both on our knees in prayer. Amen
Author's Postscript
Just look around you, at the many descriptions of angels today. We are fascinated by them, even to the extent of jewelry, art, or even yard statues. So, are they real? Yes, they are, but not necessarily flying around with big wings. (Hebrews 13:2) They might be in our dreams to give us a warning, to comfort us or to set us on the right spiritual path.

For He will command His angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways. On their hands they will bear you up, lest you strike your foot against a stone.” -Psalm 91:11-12
God offers His pure and selfless love through the use of His angels. According to the psalmist, God commands many angels to guard us. God commands those faithful spirits who are nearest to Him, who come from Him and are marked by Him to guard us in all our ways. God’s promise through the psalmist to Jesus applies to us as well.
Beware that you don’t look down on any of these little ones. For I tell you that in heaven their angels are always in the presence of my Heavenly Father.” -Matthew 18:10
This is one of the key passages in the Bible regarding guardian angels. There is no doubt that good angels help protect us. They also reveal information and minister to believers in general. The big question for many people is whether each person is assigned a guardian angel. While Scripture nowhere states that an angel is assigned to every individual, we know that we are in the presence of angels, and they are here for good
