LIGHT
Then Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world, and he who follows me will not walk in the darkness, but will have the light of life. John 8:12 NASB
In the beginning of time, at the start of creation, the world was dark and without light. God believed that light would be good, so He separated the light from the darkness and saw that the light was very good.
The evil one is constantly luring man away from light and into darkness. After all, when there is darkness is when evil thoughts and deeds are hidden from casual observers. It is in the dark of night that a robber breaks in to steal. It is in the dark when the mugger attacks his prey. The darkness of night is the favorite time for a killer to strike.
Several times God saw that man was not walking in the light but rather was cherishing the dark. The story of Sodom and Gomorra was man turning his back to the light and following darkness. That story ends with the destruction of those evil cities with only Lot and his family surviving. Noah building the Ark and saving his family from the flood was God intervening for the sake of a man.
Jesus came into the world to be the light for man to follow. It was Jesus who taught us to love each other, to forgive each other, and to walk in the light of God’s love. With Jesus as our guide and strong right arm, evil can never overcome the light.
Father, please help me to ever walk in the light of your love. Amen
