Preserved! (Psalm 121:7-8)
“The Lord shall preserve you from all evil. He shall preserve your soul. The Lord shall preserve your going out and your coming in from this time forth, and even forevermore.” (NKJV)
These verses are a promise from the Lord who says: “I will protect you and cover you. I hold you and surround you, not just today but every day. You are in my heart and in my mind - always!” There is so much uncertainty in the world around us today but there are some things we can count on, Someone we can trust. He holds the future. He has the next moment covered, and we can know that He is with us in every move we make, hallelujah!
There are many definitions for the word “preserve” and some of them are as follows: To maintain something in its original state; to conserve, maintain, protect or care for; to keep safe from harm or injury. Today the Holy Spirit wants to remind us that we stepped into this divine protection the day we stepped into the love of the Father through the precious blood of Jesus. All the power of Heaven now surrounds you – the Father, Son and Holy Spirit, and the host of Heaven! And He promises to do exceedingly abundantly even more. He promises to restore and to renew your youth! (Psalm 103:5). Interestingly, oil helps preserve the quality of many things, including wood. God has given us the life bringing oil of the Holy Spirit to cause us to shine and to be preserved in Him – in body, spirit and soul. What an assurance! What a Father!
There are three precious promises in these words of Scripture.
1) The Lord shall preserve you from ALL evil. Our Father covers us in every situation. There is no dad who will watch out for his kids in some situations and not in others. If you consider yourself a Blood bought child of God, then no weapon formed against you shall prosper, no tongue that rises up against you can stand (Isaiah 54:17). There is also no dad who will only help and protect his kids when they have been “good” but ignore their cries if they had slipped up in some way. We have a Father who loves and truly cares, and He is promising to preserve you from ALL evil. Whatever is going on in the world around you, know that you have the refuge of His wings. A thousand may fall around us but we can be sure it will not touch us! (Psalm 91:7).
2) The Lord shall preserve your soul. The intellect, will and emotions make up the soul, and God is promising to preserve and protect our souls because this is where many of the attacks of the enemy are targeted. It is in the realm of the soul that fear, doubt, unbelief, offence, and negativity take root and rise up to affect and influence the way we perceive things and believe. If you are experiencing fear or hurt, or a continuous expectation of bad things, then take a look at what you are really believing. You will be amazed! I believe that it is possible to change your life and circumstances by changing your thought life and what you believe. When we truly believe that God is God, that He is our faithful Father and wants to prosper us, we will truly begin to experience His goodness in abundance in our lives. It all lies in the realm of the soul. Take a moment today to ask the Holy Spirit to come and take over the depths of your soul, and to fill each part with His truth and His grace. There is so much God wants to do for you, which you will see as you yield every part of your soul to Him. I pray He fills and floods your heart with His deep, abiding peace.
3) The Lord shall preserve you always. The relationship between a parent and child is forever, and this is the covenant we have with our amazing heavenly Dad! Remember He is the Father who never slumbers or sleeps (Psalm 121:3 & 4). Imagine a father or mother who is sitting beside their baby’s crib and watching that child while he or she sleeps. That is what Abba does! He is always with us, always protecting us, no matter what. Every time you step out of your door and into your car, or you walk down the street and get into the bus or the train, He has you covered, preserved as good as new so that He can enjoy you today and for eternity! There are angels surrounding you, opening doors for you, making rough ways smooth. The presence and protection of Almighty God are upon you.
Dear friend, rest in the knowledge of God’s abiding presence with you. He loves you so much and His heart is always for you. Today say “no” to fear, doubt and anxiety. Say “yes” to Love (1 John 4:18). God has promised to preserve you and walk with you through this life. He is turning things around and raising you up to walk in the fullness of your calling and destiny. The Almighty God who never takes a nap or a night’s sleep is with you!
