Leading by serving
I do recall a training long ago which one of the Pastor’s intended to start named as “Servant leadership”
The intention of such a training was to inculcate in every such church leader the blessed virtue to serve as did the Lord our God.
“Then He came to Simon Peter. And Peter said to Him, “Lord, are You washing my feet?”
Jesus answered and said to him, “What I am doing you do not understand now, but you will know after this.”
Peter said to Him, “You shall never wash my feet!”
Jesus answered him, “If I do not wash you, you have no part with Me.””
John 13:6-8 NKJV
Peter was showing his respect to the Lord God and thus tried to hinder Him from washing His feet, however the Lord was showing this as an example to him and to all who desire to be leaders, we lead by serving others which truly is contrary from how the world functions today where the leaders demand to be served.
When Jesus said, “If I do not wash you, you have no part with Me.”, which clearly indicates that they whom we lead will never belong to us, will never be ours unless we serve them, thus irrespective of position, everyone needs to seek and make good the opportunity to serve, for in thus doing we will win the love and respect from others.
Many believe that a Pastor when promoted to become a Reverend and gets the initials Rev. before his name, it would mean: R-Rest, E-Eat & V-Visit.
If at all any one of us desires to become a great person, here’s how Jesus tells us the blessed path to greatness…
“Yet it shall not be so among you; but whoever desires to become great among you, let him be your servant. And whoever desires to be first among you, let him be your slave— just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many.”
Mathew 20:26-28 NKJV
The world doesn’t need commanders, rather leaders who would lead by the examples of their lives.
There were teachers at the time of Jesus who preached goodness and piety, yet this is what the Lord had to tell about them…
“Therefore whatever they tell you to observe, that observe and do, but do not do according to their works; for they say, and do not do.”
Matthew 23:3 NKJV
We need to set an example of a good life, full of Godly virtues, for the world to follow.
God Bless,
Abraham
