Christian Living
Does it ever feel like obedience to God and becoming a follower of Jesus Christ just doesn’t matter sometimes? Do you ever feel as if it sometimes doesn’t even matter to God? If you do, then let God teach you about Noah in Genesis Chapter 6. With the entirety of the rest of the world living only for themselves and taking no knowledge of God, Noah continued to walk faithfully and devotedly towards God. Many of the people of God struggled with this in the Bible, as do many of us today.
It must have been very difficult at times for Noah to stay devoted and loyal to God in a world and an environment that was completely void of God in and all around him. Temptation to compromise in his relationship with God must have been great. All the more, once God had finally had enough of mankind on the earth, Noah is commanded by God to build the ark to be saved from the oncoming flood. It took many long-suffering years to build the ark and no doubt many people scoffed and laughed at his obedience to God. But Noah stuck to God, and more importantly, God stuck to Noah, “But Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord” (Genesis 6:8, NKJ).
Living amongst the world today as followers of Christ is not that different than back in Noah’s day. We have most of the world around us who could care less about God and if we are truly living holy lives unto Him, we like Noah, are probably being laughed and scoffed at by some. We are living in a foreign way in a foreign world. Anytime you consider compromising your relationship with God in any way, remember Noah and how God took note and remembered his loyalty to Himself and how in the end, he was saved from destruction. It is the same for us today, “And you will be hated by all for my Name’s sake. But he who endures to the end will be saved” (Matthew 10:22, NKJ).
What is more remarkable about Noah is that he had no other fellowship with righteousness other than with God and his family. But through and through, he persevered to the end by faith, will and obedience. Perseverance is one of the great marks of a true Christian and God will perfect and enable it in us if we will let Him. Do not go along with any pattern for your life other than God’s pattern for you, which is all spelled out to us in the Bible. No matter what this world, your family, your culture or your community at large thinks about you, only care about what God thinks of you. Be originally and uniquely God’s all the way through and when you become discouraged, take notice of Noah in Genesis 6.
