THE STORY TELLER
Freelance writer Lupie Riley
Thought: During Jesus three years of ministry he often used parables or stories to illustrate a spiritual truth. However, there were times he would run into opposition and indifference so Jesus would take the diciples aside and explain the true meaning of his stories to them alone. There were many in the crowds that would gather around him that would listen but not apply, hence Jesus remarked "from him who has not shall be taken away even what he has and to him who has shall be given." He meant those who were eager to believe God's words would be rewarded. Those who cared less even what he has (of the Word) shall be taken away.
On one occasion he told the story about the Farmer who sowed his seed in the different kinds of soil. The farmer represented anyone who brings God's message to others. It could be a doctor, nurse, police officer, a housewife, tax collector or you and me. The seed represents the good news message of salvation. The different types of people are the soil who hear the message. Some seed fell on hard ground and it didn't penetrate into their rocky hearts and was soon forgotten. Others fell on shallow soil and the message soon wilted and died when persecution came into their life. There were seeds that fell among thorns. They were those who were willing but soon the message was crowded out (thorns) by the attractions of this world, wealth, the search for success and the lure of nice things. The seed that fell on good ground were those who are willing to listen and apply the message to their lives producing 30 to 100 more fruit (believer's).
What kind of soil do we represent? Do we have the kind of heart that is eager to listen and commit? The seed message in a condensed version mean's "Jesus is the Way--yes, the Truth and the Life. No one can get to the Father except by means of me." Jesus was God clothed in humanity with one purpose in mind. Through his crucifiction he took upon himself all the sin's of the world and paid the price that would free mankind from the bondage of sin Satan has them in. All who believe in who he was (God) and what he did are like the good soil that went on to produce a bountifull crop sharing God's message of salvation to all who would listen and place their faith in him. No other religion or leader in the world can claim what Jesus accomplished on the cross. Maranatha
Prayer: Father God, help me to go on planting the seed. Use me like the farmer who was willing and ready to go out into the world with your good news message. May I always be quick to say "here I am Lord, send me." Amen
Verse: Luke 11:28 " He replied, "Yes, but even more blessed are all who hear the Word of God and put it into practice."
