Trust, or lack of trust, is often based on one’s experiences. Perhaps a more accurate statement is that trust is often based on one’s perceptual experience. One thing is an almost universal fact: When most Believers find themselves in a challenging situation, they look to Proverbs 3:5-6 for peace and comfort.
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and he will make straight your paths.”
This sounds great, because it provides a resolution. But wait a second…Trust…with ALL my heart? Is there a person on planet earth that has not experienced disappointment? Since the answer is no, from a natural standpoint, trusting completely is a challenge. With “all” my heart means nothing withheld. It means overcoming any excuses that the mind can produce for not trusting. It means looking at that scripture from this perspective: entrust the Lord with your entire heart. How can this be accomplished? By counting Him faithful. Numbers 23:19 says “God is not a man that He should lie, or a son of man, that He should change His mind. Has He said, and will He not do it? Or has He spoken, and will He not fulfill it?” It’s ok to acknowledge that you’re not there yet. We must simply learn about God’s personality, and His promises, and allow them to replace thoughts that limit His hand in our lives. Walk right up to the One who cannot lie, and hand Him the most precious part of you: your heart. Completely trust Him, and watch your experiences change for the better. He won’t fail you, because He can’t fail! Trust Him with ALL of your heart.
