Bible Studies
In part one of this study, I gave examples of why I believe Isaiah 30:20 is Messianic, and that Isaiah is prophesying about a Master Teacher that will no longer be hidden. When I went back over the notes of my study, I had forgotten to include the following verse in relation to Is 30:20, your Master Teacher would be no longer be hidden.
Isaiah 40:5 “The glory of the Lord shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it together; For the mouth of the Lord has spoken.”
In the published work, I concluded there was a remez, or deeper meaning of verse 20, which would be found in the following verse in Isaiah 30:21. Some believe Jesus often used remez in his teachings, and gave hidden messages to those very knowledgeable of scripture. Here’s a link for further study on remez or Google remez or PaRaDeS: https://www.thattheworldmayknow.com/remez
“Your ears shall hear a word behind you, “This is the way, walk in it,” Whenever you turn to the right hand or the whenever you turn to the left.” Is 30:21 NKJV
When we go to church, we expect to hear a word or the word from the pulpit, yet we use word in a singular form. Do we really expect the pastor to stand up, and say a single word? No! We expect a full sermon, we expect to hear direction from God. This is not the case in Hebrew, when it says you will hear a word in verse 21, it means you will hear a single word, and that word is, Haderek, translated into English as “the way.”
The Hebrew word used here for word is debar and not amar. Both are used for saying or speaking; however, amar is like a formal speaking “I love you.”, yet debar is taking your wife’s hand, looking into her eyes, and saying, “I love you.” I relate debar as a word from the heart, and in this case, the heart of God.
Now, if one wants to get close to the heart of God, they must find Haderek, or The Way. How does one find their way to the heart of God?
Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth and the light, no man comes to the Father except by me.” Jn 14:6
I found two relevant scriptures where Haderek is used:
But this is what I commanded them saying, ‘Obey My voice, and I will be your God, and you will be My people; and you will walk in all the way which I command you, that it may be well with you.’ Jer 7:23
That the Lord your God may tell us the way in which we should walk and the thing that we should do. Jer 42:3
Esoterically HaDeReK gives insight into how we get into The Way. The letter Hei, is the word for Behold, here it is. The Daleth represents a doorway, how do we enter this doorway? Through the letter Resh, repentance, which then grace, mercy, and loving-kindness are given as a gift from God (the Final Kaph).
Ready for the number game in Hebrew? Haderek has a numerical value of 229, which is the 50th prime number. For those wanting to go further into the depths of scripture and number significance, think about the 50th year being a Jubilee Year, where all slaves and debtors are set free from all debts. Yeah, tie that to the Master Teacher and The Way. What a strange coincidence…
Continuing with the number game, the following I took from Judaism with my own spin. Another word with the numerical value 229 is ViGayReeChaw, meaning “And Your Convert.” Why is a prime number only divisible by one? A convert must understand and acknowledge One God and One Way to life, the blood of Jesus. (The study I read in Judaism stated, One God, One Torah, One way of life, and One way of observance.) They are so close that it pangs me when I read their studies, but one day their eyes will be opened again!
Summary
By now, it is apparent the amount of time I have taken in this verse, which is going on three weeks. Isaiah 30:20-21 are giving an imagery as discussed yesterday. The Master Teacher is someone who teaches to shoot or throw as in archery. Sin, chattim gives the image of an archer missing the mark. The Hebrew word Haderek (the way) comes from the root darak, which means to tread with the feet, but also to bend a bow, or bow down. With the archer, it gives me the image of someone getting ready to shoot the arrow. In Isaiah’s day, the Master Teacher was getting ready to show the world Haderek and for us to walk in it.
Verse 21 concludes with the use of the right and left hand. Throughout the Bible the right side is consider good or the correct path, yet the left hand represents evil or the wrong path.
Jesus said, “Enter by the narrow [or straight] gate, for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it.” Matthew 7:13-14
My overview and insight. Whichever path a person is currently walking, there is a word behind them, Hadarek (The Way) in which one should travel. The way has been revealed to all flesh, the bow was bent and the arrow has been shot by the Master Teacher, hitting the mark dead center. This is a really neat imagery, but I’m not quite done. Part three will tie these two verses together when we look at the beginning of verse 20, when the Lord gives the bread of adversary and water of affliction. The imagery is amazing.
