"The acts of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law." (Galatians 5:19-23)
How's your dream world? Are you sowing seeds of good or evil, as your subconscious recalls your life experiences through your dream world forest ?
And if you are sowing dream seeds, how are these seeds growing in your mind? Are they growing into giant "Cedar" trees of good? Or are they growing into lonely "Weeping Willow" trees for evil? If they are good trees, then that's good. If they are evil trees, then grab your ax.
So here goes another of my weird dreams, along with a synopsis of "Lesson Learned." Like I have said before, I fall into the older generation dream class, rather than the vision category of the youth. (Joel 2:28)
I dreamed I happened to be walking through a big, barren field. Why and how I happened to arrive there was a puzzle to me. So, not knowing my destination or purpose, I simply continued walking for what seemed like an eternity.
Suddenly, by chance I happened to stumble on a rather large crudely tied burlap bag. And what appeared to be a tag of sorts was partly hidden under the bag. So being of an inquisitive nature, I turned the bag over to read the tag. The tag had only one word displayed in large black letters, which read “SIN.”
As I was contemplating my next move, another character suddenly appeared on the scene. He was also dressed from head to toe in black. And what puzzled me most was that a black shadow seemed to overshadow his face hiding his facial expressions.
This suspicious looking character then picked up the bag and strewed what appeared to be some sort of seeds, all over the barren field. Then suddenly, as if by a miracle, the seed started growing into young trees. Then, as I watched, the trees all became fully grown. What was so unusual about these trees is that they all were draped in dark black leaves.
Suddenly, without warning, this sketchy character suddenly disappeared. This alone caused my apprehensive impulse to get the best of me, so I bravely walked into this newly-formed forest to make my personal observation and examination of these new trees.
As I approached the trees, much to my surprise, each tree displayed the same type black labeled tags as was attached to the original bag. The tags showed such labels as immorality, impurity, sensuality, idolatry, sorcery, strife, jealousy, anger, envying, drunkenness, carousing, and so on. Wow, what a forest of temptation !
Wait, where have I heard of these words before, and why these particular tags on the trees? Well, at that point in my dream I suddenly awoke. However, unlike some of my other dreams, I didn't have to wait long for an answer to my unusual dream.
When I got out of bed, to go get a glass of warm milk to hopefully help me return to my sleep, I happened to see my Bible open on the coffee table. Strange, I thought, as I had left my Bible in the Bible case last night before retiring to bed. Anyway, as I went over to retrieve my Bible, it was open to the portion of the Fifth Chapter of Galatians, which addresses the relationship of the flesh and the spirit. That's it! That's where I remember those evil sins from, my devotion last night!
Suddenly, like a rock striking my head, came the meaning of my dream. Parallel to the trees suddenly growing, are the evils of sin. As trees start from seedlings, so does sin start small in our hearts and then it grows larger as it is allowed to continue to grow within us.
And the way to deal with every sin of the flesh is to deal with it before we let it take root and become a tree or forest in our lives. The more we let sin take root, the harder it is to get rid of it.
Therefore we should deal with this sin when it’s still only seed, at the moment it starts to sprout in our lives. By doing so, we will save ourselves countless headaches and growing pains. In other words, always make it a practice to deal with every sin and temptation in its seed form before it has a chance to take root.
What a dream! What a personal heavenly Father we have! If we will only walk by the Spirit, we will not let the sin of the flesh take root in our hearts. (Galatians 5:16) So, we must always live and walk by the Spirit. (Galatians 5:25), and above all, we must not become boastful, challenging one another and envying one another. (Galatians 5:26)
AUTHOR'S POSTSCRIPT
How do we live and walk by the Spirit? Simply put, we must nail the works of the flesh, with its passions and desires, to the cross. (Galatians 5:24)
Yes, we must be crucified with Christ. Crucifixion with Christ means the separation from the enslaving power of the old sinful life, and freedom to experience the power of the resurrection life of Christ by faith. No longer do we live to ourselves, Christ lives within us. (Galatians 2:20). No longer will we realize the temptations of sins forest.
"No temptation has overtaken you but such as is common to man; and God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will provide the way of escape also, so that you will be able to endure it." (1 Cor 10:13)
( From my faithful proof writer) Here it is. I really like this one, but then, I'm a huge lover of trees. (Our President would say "Yuge.")
