Knowing His voice
The Lord has used several illustrations to explain the blessed truth of His relationship with us and one of them is that of the sheep and the Shepherd.
He is the Shepherd and we are His sheep (as also mentioned by David in Psalms 23) and this is how the Lord has described the good good scenario of our blessedness.
“And when he brings out his own sheep, he goes before them; and the sheep follow him, for they know his voice.” John 10:4 NKJV
The Lord has always done everything perfect in His time, however often we have failed to do our part.
As a good Shepherd, brings us out of our bondages and entanglements and leads us to our place of blessedness and He expects us to hear His voice, heed His commands and follow Him wholeheartedly.
The above doesn’t seems to be true for some or many of us, we do not recall hearing His voice leading to blessedness, for the very reason because somewhere in our past we have ignored His call and did not care to follow Him, or it could be someone before us: our parents, grandparents etc. and thus we fail to recognize the voice of our blessed Shepherd.
A brief study of history tells us of families, communities and even nations who have consented not to heed the instructions from the Word of God and thus now are lost not knowing who will lead them from their self-developed chaos and misery.
One of the blessed attributes of this Good Shepherd is that He will never abandon us; He will never lose His hope on us.
Jesus knew that many will wander away from the right path and thus He has assured us to bring us to His fold.
“What man of you, having a hundred sheep, if he loses one of them, does not leave the ninety-nine in the wilderness, and go after the one which is lost until he finds it? And when he has found it, he lays it on his shoulders, rejoicing. And when he comes home, he calls together his friends and neighbors, saying to them, ‘Rejoice with me, for I have found my sheep which was lost!’ I say to you that likewise there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine just persons who need no repentance.
Luke 15:4-7 NKJV
The Lord desires to bring us back into His blessedness only if we desire to come back.
There is no true blessedness and peace apart from God.
“There is only one way of victory over the bitterness and rage that comes naturally to us--To will what God wills brings peace.”
