Jesus replied: “A certain man was preparing a great banquet and invited many guests. At the time of the banquet he sent his servant to tell those who had been invited, ‘Come, for everything is now ready.’ “But they all alike began to make excuses. The first said, ‘I have just bought a field, and I must go and see it. Please excuse me.’ “Another said, ‘I have just bought five yoke of oxen, and I’m on my way to try them out. Please excuse me.’ “Still another said, ‘I just got married, so I can’t come.’ “The servant came back and reported this to his master. Then the owner of the house became angry and ordered his servant, ‘Go out quickly into the streets and alleys of the town and bring in the poor, the crippled, the blind and the lame.’ “ ‘Sir,’ the servant said, ‘what you ordered has been done, but there is still room.’ “Then the master told his servant, ‘Go out to the roads and country lanes and compel them to come in, so that my house will be full. I tell you, not one of those who were invited will get a taste of my banquet.’” Luke 14:16-24 NIV
God has prepared a great banquet. It consists of blessings in heaven, and blessings here on earth. He has offered an open invitation. Many have an excuse for not accepting the invitation. Some have hearts and minds which are so blind that they say there is no God, and thus no invitation. Others say that there may be a God, but, He does not fit into the life style of the individual. These people may receive some blessings here on earth, but they certainly will not receive any eternal blessings. Many of those to whom Christ was originally sent did not accept the invitation.
The invitation was then extended to the Gentiles. Today, no one can say that the invitation is not presented to them. God’s invitation is presented to every soul that has lived, or ever to live. To those who accept Christ’s invitation blessings will continue to flow, now, and throughout eternity. Blessings come in many ways. Multitudes of blessings come to us who believe. What is so good is that we are attune to God’s working in and through us, so we can recognize the blessings we are given.
Yes, one of the eternal blessings we shall have is attending the banquet in heaven with our Lord. We shall be seated at table and will have a royal feast served. What shall it be like? That is not for us to know now, but, we can trust in Christ that it will be beyond our wildest dreams.
So, do all that is asked of you by Christ, and be prepared for the banquet in heaven!
