Christian Living
A preoccupation with having and doing can interfere with being, with being a true human being (not a “human having” or a “human doing”).
If we never get around to being and simply being with, we aren’t yet living in the realm of the eternal life that Jesus died and rose again to give us.
What’s more, if our prayers are always the same, it is an indication of stagnation in our relationship with God. Same as it would be in a relationship between human beings if the verbal exchanges were totally predictable. Total predictability is a sign of staleness. If the element of surprise is retained or regained a personal relationship exhibits a freshness and a spontaneity. God reserves the right to regularly surprise us, and we reserve the right to surprise each other and be surprised!
In the relationship with God there are often alternate routes presented for us to take to arrive t the same basic result of refreshing and edification. If we resist and insist that it always has to look the same way, we will miss the variety God intends to give us in our experience of Him. If we are open God will bring that variety and diversity into our daily devotional life. It is not for no reason that God has been referred to in the acronym as G-O-D (Generator Of Diversity)!
All this helps in our living lives of victory, living victoriously even in the midst of trouble. “O Death where is thy victory?” WE have it! That’s where it is. Jesus stripped death of its victory when he died and rose again. He ripped away death’s victory and gave it to us so we could live it out in different ways each and every day. “O grave where is thy sting?” WE have the sting now. Jesus squeezed the sting out of the grave, defanged it in his resurrection. We are equipped with and inflict that sting on the powers of darkness when we praise and worship the Lord, when we proclaim what the Lord has done in our lives and in the lives of so many, when we as the Body of Christ demonstrate a supernatural love and unity to a broken, splintered, love-starved world.
