“No one lights a lamp and puts it in a place where it will be hidden, or under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, so that those who come in may see the light. Your eye is the lamp of your body. When your eyes are healthy, your whole body also is full of light. But when they are unhealthy, your body also is full of darkness. See to it, then, that the light within you is not darkness. Therefore, if your whole body is full of light, and no part of it dark, it will be just as full of light as when a lamp shines its light on you.” Luke 11:33-36 NIV
A lamp, if you will, is a vessel. The lamp itself is not the light which shines forth. It is a vessel from which the light can shine forth. Jesus Christ is the light of the world. He wishes to have us be vessels through which He can shine before man, and bring men forth to Him.
Will you be a lamp for Jesus? We must have the light of Christ within us in order for it to shine forth. If Christ indwells us, we have spiritual eyes that are healthy, and the light of Christ can shine throughout us. We must totally submit to Christ though in order for this to occur. By total submission, any darkness within us shall be removed.
We must remember always, that we are no greater than being a lamp. It is Jesus Christ who is the light. He always has been and will be the true light for mankind.
Be a lamp for Christ, and let the light which He is always shine in and through you!
