Sometimes it takes a mountain high
Sometimes it takes the deep blue sky
Sometimes it takes the lonely valley
Sometimes it takes the forceful sea
Sometimes it takes all of the above
Changing sometimes to oftentimes
To realize the Father's graceful love
Sometimes it takes the rush of day
Sometimes it takes night’s silent way
Sometimes it takes the stars at night
Sometimes it takes the moon so bright
Sometimes it takes all of the above
Changing sometimes to oftentimes
To realize the Father's graceful love
Sometimes it takes a silent plea
Sometimes it takes a prayerful knee
Sometimes it takes a raised hand
Sometimes it takes joining the band
Sometimes it takes all of the above
Changing sometimes to oftentimes
To realize the Father's graceful love
Sometimes it takes listening in haste
Sometimes it takes talking in place
Sometimes it takes remembering the fall
Sometimes it takes answering that call
Sometimes it takes all of the above
Changing sometimes to oftentimes
To realize the Father's graceful love
In God's world there is no "Sometimes” for all is consistent, all is exact, all is just as planned. For from the beginning of time, God's sovereign will has ruled the universe. (Romans 11:36) All things and all people are under the control of His divine will. (Psalm 135:6) (Psalm 115:3)
So when it comes to a personal relationship with the living God, the simple one- word phrase of "Sometimes" is changed to the one of "Oftentimes." You see, humanly speaking sometimes I want to come to Him on my own will. On occasion, from time to time, now and then, every so often, once in a while, and periodically and sporadically, my secular mindset tends to overcome the sacred spiritual relationship with my Lord. I just get the spasmodic need to only temporarily worship His holy Name.
Then His word comes to me loud and clear. I cannot be a fence sitter. In (Matthew 6:21), which is a part of the "Sermon on the Mount," we find that a person cannot pursue both material goods and spiritual well-being. The two goals are mutually exclusive. One must make the choice between the worldly values and the principles of the living God.
Again in Luke 16:13 the verse is clearly about God and money, not like the aforementioned verse in Matthew implies the placing of anything above God.
Sad to say, many pastors are watering down the Gospel and twisting words of the Bible to make people happy because of their greed, because of the New Age "name it and claim it” religion. So, what about you? What are your preferences, your idols? Could it be sports, hobbies, interests, or just plain sin?
You see, God will not share His glory with anyone or anything. (Isaiah 42:8) Without Christ you have nothing. It's all about Christ. (Philippians 1:21) Yes, everything without Christ is labeled "Sometimes." Everything in this world will disappear, but God will never. He will always provide "Oftentimes."
Yes, we must all focus on His principles, on His sovereign will for our life. That's when we must fall to our knees and make our pleas. And thank God, He hears and understands.
"If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you" (James 1:5).
