MARY'S ARRIVAL IN Bethlehem
Freelance writer Lupie Riley
Thought: It was early in the evening on the dusty, rocky trail and two shadowy figures could be seen in the distance, one riding a donkey and the other walking along beside both weary from the long treacherous journey to Bethlehem. Approaching the quaint little town all lodging at the Inn's had been taken by previous travelers who were required to return to their ancestral home by decree from the Roman Emperor for a censes. The owner of an Inn directed them to the only shelter left, his stable filled with livestock for the night.
Mary wasn't greeted by a sanitized hospital, skilled doctors and nurses, lights, food, hot shower and a soft bed. Suffering the pain of childbirth she lay her head down on a bed of straw. The pungent smell of cows, donkeys, camels, and sheep permeated the air. Flickers of light from a small oil lamp cast a soft, warm glow on the face of the teen mother who was about to give birth to the Christ child whose name shall be called Emmanuel, God is with us. Joseph was beside himself and with great urgency cried out to God for help. Maranatha
Prayer: Father God, you didn't come into the world riding a golden chariot but took the humble way of entering the mainstream of humanity as a Servant and Savior who would pay the price on Calvary for the sins of mankind. You will return again soon to claim your right as King of kings and Lord of Lords and every knee shall bow and tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord. Amen
Verse: Phill. 2:5-8 "Your attitude should be the kind that was shown us by Jesus Christ, who though he was God, did not demand and cling to his rights as God, but laid aside his mighty power and glory taking the disguise of a slave and becoming like men. And he humbled himself even further, going so far as actually to die a criminal's death on the cross."
