Just Say Yes! Karen Pourbabaee
“Mary said, ‘Behold I am a handmaid of the Lord. May it be done to me according to your word.’ Then the angel departed from her.” Luke 1:38 NAB
Mary, the mother of Christ, became the perfect model of obedience. She was attentive and humbled by God’s Word. She accepted that she was chosen by God, submitted to His will, and gave voice to her faith. Then she arose, without any physical evidence of the miracle that had just occurred within her, and got on with God’s plan, immediately traveling to the highlands of Judea to visit her cousin Elizabeth. Here she received the voice of confirmation. (Luke 1:41-45)
If young Mary had even the slightest doubt, Elizabeth’s words in verse 43 confirmed God’s message through the angel Gabriel: “And how does this happen to me, that the mother of our Lord should come to me?” Mary said yes to God’s plan to bring salvation to all mankind. She said yes to her role in God’s kingdom. Whoever we are, God has a role for us in the kingdom. He has appointed us to a special task in His great work. Wondering how to appropriate God’s will for your life? To know your role in His great work?
Listen up! Be attentive to God’s messages, perhaps not from an angel, but in His still small voice. In the words of a friend, the pages of His Word, the majesty of His creation, or in the circumstances of life, God always has something to say.
Quiet me, Lord, so I may hear Your voice and discern Your will.
Speak up! Let your mouth proclaim the faith in your heart. Just say yes.
Embolden me, Lord, with courage and faith to say yes to Your plan.
Get up! Faith always has a future, so get up and move toward it.
Strengthen me, Lord, so I may arise and follow the path You have prepared for me. Amen.
