ARE YOU OR AREN'T YOU
Freelance writer Lupie Riley
Thought: My morning scripture reading has taken me into the book of Mark and the incident with Peter's denial of his Master and Savior Jesus. It is incomprehensible to me how Peter could do this after walking, talking, listening and being an eye witness to Jesus many miracles. By the third time he was questioned he even resorted to cursing because he was fearful for his life. If our faith were tested today in a life or death situation what would our response be?
Today Christians in the middle East are tortured, beheaded, burned and crucified for their faith in Christ. With the climate in America changing toward Christians and becoming more hostile to those of faith who speak out we need to think twice about how deep our love and commitment is to the Lord. Would we die for him?
Jesus spent 40 days with the disciples after his resurrection and on one occasion he questioned Peter's love for him. The Lord asked him three times"Do you love me Peter" and each time Jesus went deeper into Peter's heart redeeming him for the three times he denied the Savior. The Word says the greatest gift we can give to a friend is to die for him. Are we willing to do this for our Lord if confronted with the question "are you or aren't you a follower of Jesus?" Or would we shrink back in fear for our lives and give an answer like Peter? In the coming days as the animosity toward Christians grow in this country we just might be asked that question. Are you ready with the right answer? Maranatha
Prayer: Father God, increase my faith so I may stand boldly before my enemy and confess my devotion to you even at the risk of losing my own life. Amen
Verse: John 15:12-14 "I demand that you love each other as much as I love you. And here is how to measure it--the greatest love is shown when a person lays down his life for his friends; and you are my friends if you obey me."
