DAY THIRTY-SEVEN
FACING THE PROBLEM
“Notwithstanding, I have a few things against thee, because thou sufferest that woman Jezebel, which calleth herself a prophetess, to teach and to seduce my servants to commit fornication, and to eat things sacrificed unto idols. And I gave her space to repent of her fornication’s; and she repented not.” (Revelation 2:20, 21)
Before God makes changes in people’s lives, He begins by confronting them about the problem. Every case in Scripture, confrontation precedes confession and confession results in repenting, finally leading to forgiveness. There are some who think by ignoring a problem things will eventually work themselves out, given enough time. Unfortunately, God does not work that way, and true to who He is, He begins to solve the problem at Thyatira, by confronting them. It is never an easy thing for men to be confronted by God regarding their sin. Such confrontation always produces guilt and guilt is one of the major ways that God uses to effect repentance. So now Thyatira is faced with the problem. What is she going to do? History records, what she did, but we are not talking about the historical Thyatira but we are talking about the modern day Thyatira, and change is possible, even today. God says that He gave Thyatira opportunity to change, but she did not.
Several things are mentioned in this brief verse. When we speak of “her”, we speak of those also who willfully came under and supported her actions. So we will examine:
First, her method.
Second, we will examine her influence.
Third we will notice her success,
and finally, we shall notice her judgment.
