Basking in the “Son”
John 8:12
Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, “I am the light of the world; he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.”
These words were spoken by Christ after the scribes and Pharisees brought a woman before Him whom they said had been caught in the very act of adultery. When her accusers could not honestly say they were without sin, they were convicted by their conscience. Since no one was left to accuse the woman, Jesus told her to go and sin no more. He then stated “I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.”
Those words remind me of 2 Corinthians 5:17 where we read, “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature; old things are passed away: behold, all things are become new.”
Once we are “in Christ” we are transported from spiritual darkness (sin) to spiritual light (life). After we accept Christ as Lord and Savior and begin to follow Him, we no longer live in darkness but now live in the Light and have the Light of life. I like to refer to our status and position as “basking in the Son.” According to Dictionary.com, to bask means “to lie in or be exposed to a pleasant warmth or to enjoy a pleasant situation.”
Being a new creation, being in Christ, puts us in a desirable, pleasant, and enjoyable situation and position. Oh what a feeling to be “basking in the Son.” Whatever we need and want can be found in Jesus Christ, the Anointed One. There’s no better place to be than out of darkness and walking (living, thriving) in the Light. There’s no better place to be than in Christ. It is in Him that we live, move, and have our existence (Acts 17:28).
There is comfort and joy in knowing you are a “joint heir” with Christ, a branch attached the Vine. Yes, it is relaxing to know and be convinced beyond any doubt that Christ in you is the hope of glory (Colossians 1:27). If you feel tired, weak, confused, rejected, worn, lost, empty, spiritually bruised or cast out, I invite you to accept the Savior – today and now. Taste and see that God is good. Your life will be sweet and your joy complete as you spend each day “basking in the Son.”
