JESUS CHRIST : THE GOOD SHEPHERD (Read John 10)
1) The GOOD SHPHERD lays down His life for the sheep:
"[Jesus says] I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd layeth down his life for the sheep."-John 10:11
Truly, Jesus Christ is our Shepherd. Not only Shepherd, He is our Good Shepherd. The difference between a hireling and a shepherd is this:
A hireling does not care for the sheep, for they are not his own.
A good shepherd cares for his sheep and does not leave them stranded, for they are his own.
When trials and persecution come to us, our friends may leave us; even our family may leave us; but the GOOD SHEPHERD will not leave us, nor forsake us.
2)The GOOD SHEPHERD knows His own and His own know Him:
"[Jesus says] I am the good shepherd; and I know mine own, and mine own know me, even as the Father knoweth me, and I know the Father; and I lay down my life for the sheep." - John 10:14-15
Jesus knows us and we know Him. How do we know Him? It is by listening to His words and acting by them. The sheep hear the voice of the shepherd and goes on his command. Likewise we should hearken to the voice of the GOOD SHEPHERD so that we may find peace and security.
Look here in this verse and the above verse: Jesus Christ actually told that He would die for the people and for the redemption from their sins. How marvelous are His words. 'How deep are His thoughts'.
3)The other sheep:
"[Jesus says] And other sheep I have, which are not of this fold: them also I must bring, and they
shall hear my voice: and they shall become one flock, one shepherd."-John 10:16
Who are the other sheep? It is the people other than the Jews. For Israel was chosen by God. Now we are also chosen because of the sacrifice of Jesus Christ. Remember what Jesus said to the disciples. He said that they should make disciples of every nation, tongue and tribe. Also in the book of Revalation, there are two groups of people in the kingdom of God (though they are not actually two different groups, but they are a single people. They are God's chosen ones): First there were 144000 people of Israel (12000 from each tribe) and secondly there was an uncountable number of people-of every tongue and nation and tribe. This proves that Jesus Christ came for the redemption of the whole world. Read the book of Revalations chapter 7 for further reference.
4)Jesus Christ laid down His Life that He may take it again:
"[Jesus says] Therefore doth the Father love me, because I lay down my life, that I may take it again. No one taketh it away from me, but I lay it down of myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This commandment received I from my Father."-John 10:17-18
Does these verse remind you of something? Yes, it reminds us of the ressurrection of Christ. Jesus told the people earlier of the details of His ressurrection.
"Jesus answered and said unto them, Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up. The Jews therefore said, Forty and six years was this temple in building, and wilt thou raise it up in three days? But he spake of the temple of his body. When therefore he was raised from the dead, his disciples remembered that he spake this; and they believed the scripture, and the word which Jesus had said."-John 2:19-22
Did you just see how Jesus Christ prophesied of His own Ressurrection. Clearly he was crucified and He rose from the dead the third day.
"[Jesus says] For I am come down from heaven, not to do mine own will, but the will of him that sent me. And this is the will of him that sent me, that of all that which he hath given me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up at the last day. For this is the will of my Father, that every one that beholdeth the Son, and believeth on him, should have eternal life; and I will raise him up at the last day." - John 6:38-40
Belive in Jesus Christ as your Saviour and also as the Redeemer of the whole world. Trust in the Lord and lean not on your own understanding. Praise Him and thank Him, whatever be the circumstance and believe in His Word and in the GOOD SHEOHERD.
May the GOOD SHEPHERD guide you everyday in your life.
Prayer:
Father Jehovah God, we thank you for sending your only begotten Son that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. Lord, we thank you for by the blood of Jesus Christ, our sins are washed away and by His stripes we are healed. We thank you Lord for the GOOD SHEPHERD, who gave His life for His sheep. He [Jesus Christ] laid down His life that He may take it again. In Jesus Christ we trust. Lord forgive us our sins and your will be done. We offer you this prayer in the powerful name of our Lord and Saviour JESUS CHRIST AMEN.
Alleluia
