NO EXPECTATION, NO EXPERIENCE!
And there sat a certain man at Lystra, impotent in his feet, being a cripple from his mother’s womb, who have never walked:
The same heard Paul speak: who steadfastly beholding him, and perceiving that he had faith to be healed, said with a loud voice, Stand upright on thy feet. And he leaped and walked. Acts 14: 8-10;
Breakthroughs and miracles are not products of accident; they are initiated by faith and earnest expectations of men. Expectation begets miracles! Just as delivery is impossible without pregnancy, so it is impossible to receive from God without earnest expectation. The man spoken about in the above passage was not the only person at the service where Apostle Paul preached, but he was the only one that received his miracle that day. What happened to the other people? They too were present but probably had no faith and earnest expectation required to turn their situations around.
Expectation and faith go together. The man, according to the scripture, was crippled from his mother’s womb, so it’s obvious he was either carried to the venue of the crusade or dragged himself on the floor to attend. He could have been discouraged by a number of challenges including that of getting to the venue of the crusade since he could not walk, but he did not allow any barrier to stand between him and his miracle. His earnest expectation and faith in God and His word propelled him to his breakthrough. A man with strong expectation and faith will not create excuses when it comes to the things of God.
Also, the scripture reveals that the man whilst listening to Paul’s preaching did not allow any distraction whatsoever, he steadfastly beheld Apostle Paul while preaching with great expectation and paid utmost attention to the word of God. His attention was not divided at all and he swallowed every bit of God’s word that was spoken. His heart was well prepared, so the word of God which he heard mixed with faith in him. Of course when God’s word mixes with faith in one’s heart, it causes a definite reaction that brings the much needed breakthrough. God located the man in the midst of the crowd and changed his life completely.
On a number of occasions God has had cause to single out very few individuals out of very large crowds for blessings and breakthroughs. In the earthly days of Jesus Christ, very view people, compared to the crowd that always flocked around Him, received their miracles. In Luke 8:43-48; the woman with the issue of blood was the only one who received her healing just by a touch of the Lord’s garment. Others actually thronged him from all sides but only the woman touched him! Others had no expectation, so their contact with Jesus did not make any difference in their lives. In Mark 2: 1-12; the paralytic who was carried on a bed by four men received his healing just because the men who carried him refused to give up in the face of barriers and limitations. Their expectation of healing for the man, gave them energy and courage to defy and subdue all barriers.
As a matter of fact, it is not impossible for God to meet everyone at the point of his or her need, but the problem with most of us is that our hearts are too cold and void of expectation and faith required to draw out from God. The problem is with us, not with the Almighty God! A lot of people often miss their breakthroughs and miracles all because they lack the required expectation and faith in God.
Going by the scripture that says that God daily loads us with benefits, it is satisfying to know that every day provides us the opportunity to receive from God. As God rolls out opportunities for us to be blessed in His presence, each of us has a role to play in obtaining our much needed miracles and breakthrough. On our part, we must have earnest expectation and faith to receive from God. When God sees a heart with expectation and faith, He will never ignore.
One of the enemies that usually stand on people’s way to breakthrough is discouragement and distractions, but like the man spoken about in the above passage, our hearts must be full of faith and earnest expectations to draw from the Almighty God at all times. There’s no limit to what the Almighty God can do in our lives provided He sees the required faith and expectation in us. How much expectation do you have when you come to God’s presence? Do you just approach God’s presence casually without any earnest desire to receive from Him? God is prepared to do great things in our lives again but we must be well positioned to draw from His ceaseless flow. One beautiful thing is that they, whose expectation is fastened on the Lord, are never disappointed. God will single you out of the crowd for miracles if you have a deep expectation on Him. Remember, NO EXPECTATION, NO EXPERIENCE!
Shalom!
