For with God nothing will be impossible.h Luke 1:37. Today, I want to continue to validate the legitimacy of Scripture. Jesus said, gctill heaven and earth pass away, one jot or tittle will by no means pass from the law till all is fulfilled.h Matt. 5:18. His words show the love and respect He had for the word of God.
Most of today's information was gleaned from Josh McDowell's Evidence That Demands a Verdict book referenced in the previous post. The Bible was written in 3 different languages: Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek. The authors are from very diverse backgrounds. Moses was a political leader, Joshua a soldier, Daniel a prime minister, Peter a fisherman, Amos a farmer, Paul a rabbi, and Matthew a tax collector, to name a few. And yet, the Scriptures are coherent, and they flow together, like a river.
They were written at different times: peacetime, war, political and social unrest, and so on. Parts of the Bible were written when Israel was independent, and parts when her people were enslaved. It was written on 3 different continents; various countries and social customs. It was composed from different locations: a dungeon, the wilderness, watching a herd of sheep, palaces, prison, while traveling, military campaigns.
Holy Scriptures tackle hundreds of controversial subjects with harmony and continuity from Genesis, the first book, to Revelation, the last book. Geisler and Nix say it this way: The Paradise Lost of Genesis becomes the Paradise Regained of Revelation, from A General Introduction to the Bible, Chicago, Moody Press, 1968.
The great Bible scholar, F.F. Bruce writes: "The Bible is not simply an anthology; there is a unity which binds the whole together. An anthology is compiled by an anthologist, but no anthologist compiled the Bible."
Further, "the Bible has been read by more people and translated into more languages than any other book." Evidence. It was one of the first books to be printed on the earliest presses, and, after 1500 years, still heads the Bestseller lists, and is the most owned book in the history of mankind. The Scriptures were written on perishable materials, and had to be copied and recopied down through the centuries before the invention of the printing press.
Bernard Ramm, in his Protestant Christian Evidences, Moody Press, 1967, says "Jews preserved it (the Bible) as no other manuscript has ever been preserved. They kept tabs on every letter, syllable, word, and paragraph. They had special classes of men within their culture whose sole duty was to preserve and transmit these documents with practicably perfect fidelity."
I hope, whether you are a Christian, Jew, questioner or skeptic, you are beginning to see the direction the unfolding evidence is pointing, straight into the heavenly realms, toward less than the Lord God Almighty, Creator of Heaven and earth, and the undisputed author of the Bible.
We will by God's grace, continue on this line next time. Thank you, and please comment
