Love the sinner,
Hate the sin:
That’s the Word
We have heard.
But sometimes
It’s difficult to separate…
Sinner from Sin,
That is, unless
Jesus Christ enters in.
“He (Jesus) answered, Have you not read that he who created them from the beginning made them male and female." Matthew 19: 4(ESV)
“But he said, What is impossible with men is possible with God."(Luke 18:27 ESV)
(That is to separate the sinner from his/her sin by means of the cross.)
I have heard Robin Williams, though he himself was not homosexual, during his earthly life had been a strong public advocate for same sex marriage. I also heard (this from a friend who said she heard it on the “news”) that there was a certain Baptist church, designated by Robin Williams to handle his funeral, but refused because of what he stood for.
Not knowing the true facts I can’t really make a judgment on the issue. But just some thoughts: the church being a private entity has the right to refuse to perform a ceremony of institution on moral grounds they feel strongly about. They also could choose to show grace and grant Mr. Williams request, by allowing for a Christian burial with perhaps a disclaimer someplace in the message stated with tact and grace, in their own wording. I’m just glad it would not be my job to figure that out.
The 'Church' conclusion through age established tradition has been to perform Christian burial for persons of unknown character. In other words, they could have been anything, but it is still the decent thing to do. However, as is often the case nowadays, it is our media, not that Baptist church they are now holding in the dock, that has caused yet another shadow to fall across the corporate face of Christendom.
We stand and watch. Or should I say, we watch and stand?
As a postscript I could find nothing on the web about a Baptist Church refusing to do Robin Williams funeral. The only thing apparently happening is the Westboro Baptist Church planning to picket... again. And that is in MHO just disgusting. If anyone has seen or heard something I did not, I would appreciate a comment.
