Encouragement
I sat and thought recently of the many prayers I have prayed and the answers I have received. Sometimes He said no, and sometimes the answer seemed slow, but each prayer was answered in perfect time. It seemed at first that I had prayed more times than I had received answers but then I realized that I was blessed beyond my imagination when I considered the many prayers He answered quietly. I was gently reminded by the Holy Spirit that my family had been spared tragedy over and over again. I recalled that I had never been to a funeral of a family member until I was almost thirty years old. Every member of my immediate family is still here and doing well in spite of past problems with drugs, alcohol and fast cars to name only a few of the hazards that kids and adults face these days. My grandparents had lived to a ripe old age with the exception of my maternal grandfather and an uncle who had passed away before I was born. I remembered the many storms I had weathered from tornados to hurricanes and floods but never had our home been destroyed or damaged. There was a time in North Carolina that we were unable to leave the town we lived in due to the effects of a hundred year flood. It was a very small town and everything around us was underwater, but we were just above the level of destruction. So many folks we knew lost everything they had and we were blessed to be left unscathed. What a miracle I thought to have our prayers answered time after time so quietly as the storms raged all around us. My family has never been hungry or homeless despite times it had seemed it would be an imminent reality. I am reminded of the Israelites in Egypt when they were told to spread lambs blood over the entrance to their homes so the angel of death would Passover that home. We have seen many times that tragedy came very close indeed, but we have been spared by the grace of God. Sometimes the answer we expect is not the answer we get and other times He answers so quietly that we almost miss hearing it. But rest assured that every prayer you ever prayed is heard in heaven and is answered in his perfect time.
