By the world's standards, she is no beauty contestant. In fact it takes some time of knowing her before others realize why I actually married her. Short, pleasingly plump and plain in appearance, yet she really is someone to write home about.
There were many offers coming my way from women far more appealing to the eye. But I had already been down that road--several times. I knew what was ahead if I took that route and so this time I followed the Lord's leading. God actually had to push me into marriage. We were engaged for over two years before we finally tied the knot that has completed me and brought me much strength and comfort.
From our road map for life's highway I read about the virtuous woman and how to distinguish her from the others. Proverbs 31:10-31 speaks of the benefits of seeking the inward beauty of a wife. It begins by stating "Her worth is far above rubies," and "Her husband safely trusts in her".
Putting a permanent stain on my reputation and even tainting my witness for Christ, I had previously married outside of God's will. I can testify from experience that a man truly reaps what he sows. I sowed disobedience and reaped a whirlwind of heartache and sorrow. "But God" allows u-turns. Those two glorious words "But God" have been transforming the mess I had made of my life into something wonderful and joyous.
"Becca" is another awesome gift to me out of God's amazing grace. Her heart shines with the tenderness and love of Jesus. Her great beauty emanates from within a soul that is committed to God first. He has led her to love and support me in all that I say and do, yet she is not afraid to point out areas in me I need to work on, or to correct my folly. Becca is diligent in good works and continues to grow in grace and knowledge. She personifies the woman of virtue in the Bible. My wife is one of the most beautiful women in the world. They can keep the rubies and the false beauty, I'll take Becca. With Jesus in a man's heart, and a godly woman by his side, he has all he will ever need.
