I’ve never heard your voice
Nor have I seen your face
And yet I know you well.
There is so much that
I’ve experienced in life
So many things to tell.
As the day draws ever nearer
Instead of my thoughts becoming clearer
Confusion fills my heart
I’m happy and excited
I’m afraid and nervous
I don’t know where to start
Your life is so very precious
Your future is in my hands.
It’s difficult to look for advice
No-one really understands
It’s up to me to mold you
To teach you and to scold you
Yet all I really want right now
Is just the chance to hold you.
I ask you for forgiveness
For things I may do wrong
I ask you for understanding
When I am not that strong
Together we’ll face life’s trials
Together we’ll always pull through
I know that I can do anything
As long as I have you.
I know that this journey will not be easy
The road ahead is long
We face so many trials
Heartache, tears and song.
Each accomplishment you have in life
I’ll be so proud of you
Each obstacle that you face in life
I’ll help you to get through.
Let’s walk this road together
Your little hand in mine
And if we stumble along the way
At least we’ll still be fine.
The bond we share who could understand?
A mother and her son
As long as we love and cherish each other
Our race is already won
I’ll take the good I’ve learned in life
I’ll give it all to you
I’ll teach you to think for yourself
To make decisions that are true
I’ve never done this before
Everything is still brand new
We’ll discover it all together
Just me and you
One day when you are all grown up
You’ll look at me and say
“We did it mom,
We made it all the way”.
“Now it has become my turn
To help my children grow and learn
I only hope I can be strong and true
And a worthy parent, just like you.”

Thank God for this piece. I love children and reading through your poem only reminded me of the love between my mother and I. You are (or going to be)a wonderful mum!
