Depression always involves Inactivity as in, “I've been so depressed I don't know what to do.” The answer is Anything. Take classes, join a club, ride a bicycle, make new friends, etc. Any activity eliminates inactivity. Makes sense, huh? Identify something you enjoy, then simply do it.
Recall something funny that made you laugh. It is impossible to laugh and be depressed simultaneously. Laughter Therapy is even an accepted professional technique.
Eliminate your Problems. Buy my e-book, “Best Way to Handle any Problem in Life.” Carrying around unresolved problems drags you down. It is like carrying a fifty pound sack of manure on your back – not only heavy, but stinks too.
The definition of a good friend is, “Someone who makes you feel better about yourself.” Call close friends to share your thoughts and get feedback.” Friends are gifts you give yourself in life.
Identify your “Trigger Thoughts” that spawn depression and block them. Say to yourself, “Don't even go there.”
What makes you happy? Obviously for ladies it is getting your hair and nails done. In many nursing homes this is performed on a regular basis as, “Happiness Therapy.” For men, happiness might be found in a computer electronics store, auto shop, poker game, fishing, or playing with kids. Personally speaking, put me in a hardware store and I'm in heaven for hours.
Spirituality can be incredibly uplifting. Read the Holy Bible, Torah, or whatever religious version is meaningful to you. Belief in a higher power is usually helpful.
Here is the “Ultimate Depression Killer.” Go to a large hospital and visit the Children's Cancer ward. Seeing the courage in those little bald heads strikes you right in the heart. You will leave thinking, “What the heck am I depressed about?”
