I believe the 10 Commandments in fact matter very much, even more-so that of common earthly Church and judicial laws; a complex and intricate web of confusion. The 10 Commandments on the other hand however is fairly straight forward and to the point. The points made very clearly in the 10 Commandments leave little room for manipulation of those who wish to deliberately manipulate them to see what is wrong righted and vice-versa for their convenience.
For example; God does not say – “you may only steal if you are starving”! The wording is clear, precise and to the point; “thoult shall NOT steal” – not negotiable. In all 10 Commandments there is simply nowhere that allows for the negotiation of the Rules and therefore cannot be manipulated and turned a shade of grey for man’s convenience.
The 10 Commandments provided for a simplistic set of guidelines or instructions for assisting us to live life according to God’s Commandments. As history clearly shows, any negotiation of the 10 Commandments is in almost all cases detrimental to those who do attempt to manipulate God’s Words. Sadly, with the onslaught of the pre-modern era many neglected to remember that even with modernism, Spirituality is a part of our human realities. Without some sort of human Spiritual infrastructure such as the 10 Commandments, we can almost guarantee ourselves of total damnation. However, in saying this, we cannot ignore the terrorism of the ancient world either. Christianity was fiercely opposed by Rome, a violent and bloody history killing tens-of-thousands in the name of Religion; not God. I don’ believe anyone, even Jesus has died in God’s name, Jesus, just as all others have died in the name of Religion. The Church, a dictatorship in the form of man’s Doctrine (not God’s Doctrine), that has terrorized and killed millions worldwide, much to God’s dismay no doubt.
The 10 Commandments do not belong to the Church; God gave them freely to Moses as he fird them into stone tablets to give to the people, gentiles and Jews alike. It is my belief the Church then began yet another time to exploit God’s Word in suiting their financial purposes mostly. We cannot forget also the many personal and communal benefits the Church would have enjoyed at the expense of the people “controlled” by Church Doctrine. I for one, do not see anywhere in the 10 Commandments an Order to be humble. This human condition of being humble has been severely distorted and paved the way for exploitation, abuse and control of Christian human beings. What better and more “presentable” manner for the Church collectively to extract money and possessions from people than to have them believe assertiveness is a sin.
Much of the world’s greatest financial wealth and material possessions can be found hoarded in most Church’s, around the world; the very organizational empire that claims to teach God’s Word. A sharp contradiction to God’s Word according to the teachings of Jesus when he taught the people; “do not hoard worldly possessions and earthly wealth”. Well, needless to say the Church certainly jumped on that one and saw to it that people didn’t! Yet another time the Church exploited the teachings of Jesus, whom by the way, according to the Bible, Jesus didn’t pay taxes nor tithed on a regular basis. However, there is no Rule in the 10 Commandments either that says a man cannot be rich and must suffer!
After years of intense research, personal and professional experience, I can only conclude that yes, in-deed, we are in desperate need of reviving and retaining the 10 Commandments in-tact; perhaps even see it over-ride any Church Doctrine that is in place today and as we see finally in serious question of it’s credibility and sincerity for their motives in having created “Institutionalized, Organized and Categorized Religion” in the first instance.
