An Alley Cat’s lonely Heart
Chapter 1: I Meet a Hellhound
I slowly crept across my home alley, and sat down in a corner for me to enjoy my stolen feast… a mouse that another cat had half eaten, and then fell asleep. I easily and swiftly took my meal and left unnoticed. I did this very often, although I am only around six months old… anyway… since I steal things from everyone, nobody really likes me much. I wish that they did… but my teeth and claws aren’t very strong yet, so then I can’t catch food for myself very often. And so, with no mother or father to catch food for me, I must steal.
I lay and devoured my feast as I heard something huge brush by the trash can that I hide behind. I slowly dropped my mouse and crept lightly towards the sound, I hesitated and looked back at my meal, because I well know that if I leave… it could very well be stolen back. But, my curiosity took over, and I kept walking. As I was just about to turn the corner, I saw a very large shadow that grew, and grew, and grew… till’ it was obviously NOT a cat… it was something much scarier and larger. So I quickly slunk back into the same corner that my mouse was, and curled my tail around my front paws and waited.
I saw the shadow turn into a shape, and then the shape turned into a thing, and then the thing turned into a black nose that slowly edged the corner, and began sniffing fiercely. I was about to run and save my life, but then I got this sudden rush, that ran down my spine and began to want to fight back! So, I silently edged towards the giant nose, and raised my paw to smite it, but it suddenly vanished before my very eyes. I then noticed that I heard growling and then cat’s screaming! So I quickly scrambled around the corner and saw a quick flash of black and grey… and then nothing!
“Blacktail,” I called to my friend. “Blacktail, where are you… are you okay?” I listened, but out of the blackness, I heard no answer. I searched all around, but I found no one. So, I curled up into my corner again, and lay fast asleep.
The next morning, I saw our nurse-cat, named Whiteclaw. I saw blood trickling from her left flank, and I could see it so vibrant, because her fur was pure white.
“What has happened to you?” I asked as she collapsed onto my lap.
“The… shadow… the… dogs… they have… returned.” She answered in hard gulps of air, and then was when I knew that I would not see her chest moving the next day. For she would be in another place tomorrow… I didn’t know where, but just not here.
“What has returned, why, where is everyone?” I asked her as tears entered my eyes.
“You must protect the alley… you are our… only hope… I love… you…”
“No, please… I don’t know what you mean… and I can’t… I can’t even catch a mouse!” I cried.
“Believe in yourself… take care… my boy.” After that, I heard a few wisps of breathes… and then her lungs never moved any longer. She took care of me when my parents left me… and now I was alone. My heart became to fill with hate, anger, sadness, and the feeling of revenge. I would keep to Whiteclaw’s words… and protect my alley, even if it takes me to her!
