Conviction
Upon life’s waters I set sail
“Ahoy, mate! Anchors! Up - aweigh!”
My course is laid in, I can’t fail -
So, onward! Upward! Sieze the day!
By light of day I make my way,
Across the ocean wide and blue,
To stop and thank, to pause and pray,
Alas, my pride did not pursue.
The seas grew coarse, and darkness loomed
Upon my perfect pleasure cruise;
Lightning cracked and thunder boomed:
A harbinger of unpaid dues.
Upon life’s waters, there, I flail:
A fool who’s set in his own way.
I’m burden laden; lost, I wail,
“Please, guide me home, I’ll gladly pay!”
To whom I cried out? I know not.
For what? I’m still not sure I know.
The answer, yet, was what I’d sought.
Its source? T’was surely Lifeblood’s flow.
“My child, my Love is not for sale.
I Am Jehovah, El Shaddai,
And in my eyes you cannot fail
Believe in me and never die.
“Christ Jesus is the only Name
By which my children reach my throne.
Lay down life’s burdens! Lay down shame!
I’ve laid your course,
I’ve paid your way,
My child, I’m waiting. Please, come home.”
