No other Gods before You,
That's what Your law commands,
But at the very core of this
A heart of love demands.
We cannot put You first, Lord,
If we don't truly love,
All else remains idolatry,
A form of our self-love.
We pose selfish desires
As if they were our due,
And every sin we then commit
Puts us ahead of You.
No competition is allowed,
You only must be first,
But only when we drink of You
Will we no longer thirst.
"You shall have no other gods before or besides Me." Exodus 20:3 (Amplified)

A difficult topic to define. Some good thoughts you've presented. I love the last of the last verse:
"But only when we drink of You
Will we no longer thirst."
Blessings!
Oh, Carol this one is really good and I think it was written and inspired by the Holy Spirit, so I wouln't mess with Him, I mean it!!!
Keep writing for His wonder and glory . . . Debby
Thanks, Judy, for your comment. I'm thinking maybe I need to do a rewrite on this poem, "Definition of Idolatry". I think God wants us to love ourselves to some degree, but in the proper perspective. Do you think I was misleading? I really would appreciate your input on this.
God bless you for your honest opinion,
Carol
