Children
There's no running from God; it just can't be done,
Though you hurry and scurry, He can't be outrun.
For God is Almighty; what He wills will be,
Just listen one moment and then you will see.
God once had a prophet, 'twas Jonah by name,
To sinners He sent him His message proclaim.
But Jonah was frightened and he ran away,
He could not, he would not, he'd just not obey!
He'd simply not listen, To Tarshish he'd flee,
As far, just as far, as the wide open sea.
So down in the depths of the first ship he saw
He scooted, he scampered, to hide from God's call.
From God there's no hiding wherever one goes,
For He's always present and everything knows.
But get his attention God could and He would,
A great storm He sent and the wind blew "no good"!
Tossed, tumbled, tousled, the sailors cried out,
"What caused this to happen?" they asked with a shout.
"It's me, I have caused it," said Jonah with shame,
"I fled from my God when He called me by name."
"Your lives must be spared; it is I who have sinned,
So throw me on over to quiet the wind."
So into the sea Jonah's body was hurled,
And so Jonah entered a whole 'nother world.
In the depths of the sea he was doused, soused, submerged,
As great rolling waves o'er his body then surged.
But God had a plan and the power to act,
A fish He prepared and on Jonah he snacked.
Three days and nights Jonah lay in his belly,
He prayed to God as his knees turned to jelly.
God saw Jonah's sorrow; He heard and forgave,
The fish coughed him up in the vast briny wave.
Can't you just see it...upchucked by a fish?
Oh, what a delightful, delicious old dish!
But Jonah unharmed swore his God to obey,
And onward he marched praising God all the way.
