This year has started with a BANG, and so far 2010 is as great as I had hoped it would be. I feel so blessed to be alive!
I have a new job – the best job in the world (for me), a cute new car and a new laptop, but the possessions I treasure most are my new attitude and renewed faith in Christ. I feel His favour in my life in such powerful ways and for that I am eternally grateful.
As always, during this time of the year, a hot topic on everyone’s mind is that of “New Year’s Resolutions.” Some of us have already forgotten what they were (after all, it’s been 13 days already!).
If you’re anything like me, you probably charge out of the starting block on 1 January like a well-trained race horse ready to take on the world! Good intentions and high hopes fuel your body as you hightail on down the track. However after the first bump in the road or unexpected corner, with the end still so far in the distance, you start to feel your energy begin to fail.
The temptation to give up starts to rear its sneaky head and it grows in strength as the days wear on. My friend, today I’d like to encourage you to never give in and never give up. I once heard a story about Sir Winston Churchill which I found really motivating.
According to the story, on October 29, 1941 Winston Churchill (then the Prime Minister of England) visited Harrow School in the UK to to hear the traditional songs he had sung there as a youth, as well as to speak to the students. They asked him to give a speach to the students and what he said was simple yet, very profound.
Churchill stood before the students and said, “Never, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, give in. Never give in. Never give in. Never give in.” Then he sat down. That’s it!
After a brief moment of surprised silence, the audience burst into applause and this one short oration has been quoted over and over and over from then until today.
I urge you to never give in to that nagging voice in your head that says “you can’t….” You know the one. You’ve heard it many times before. When you see something you want or you have a dream that excites you, before you can stretch out your arm to reach for it, the little voice says, “No! You can’t have that! You don’t deserve it. You could NEVER accomplish that! Who do you think you are?”
Well I have an answer for you to give to it the next time that it dares to whisper in your ear…
“I am a child of the living God! He LOVES to bless me! He LOVES to see me happy. HE says I CAN – and what’s best of all is, I don’t have to rely on myself to get it! HE will GIVE it to me!” Isn’t that wonderful?! When your energy starts to drain, remember the Father who spoke and the world was created! Remember that your life is in HIS powerful, miraculous yet tenderly loving hands! Don’t listen to the enemy when he lies in your ear… keep your eyes on Christ and race toward your dreams with gusto! He will be the wind beneath your wings, He will lift you up when you stumble.
Let 2010 be different to the years before. Let 2010 be an opportunity to show the world that our God is GREAT and that we can accomplish all things through Him who strengthens us!
Keep smiling and keep shining,
