Jesus didn’t ask about his education, his social status or his references. He knew the tax collector had an honest heart, so he said, “Follow Me.”
Christ didn’t ask about his morality, his beliefs or his church membership. He knew the political zealot had a sincere heart, so he asked him to be a disciple.
Jesus didn’t ask about the behavior, reputation or relationships of Mary Magdelene – she had an open heart, so she was His friend.
The Savior didn’t ask about a resume, the work history or past baptismal successes for the “Sons of Thunder” – He knew they were honest souls, so He called them, two.
He ate with sinners, outcasts and society’s deadbeats. He told them about eternal riches, eternal life and eternal joy. Then He said, “Follow Me” and many did.
Jesus was never as concerned with ones ability as He was their availability. A willing mind, an open heart and an obedient spirit are the keys to seeing the kingdom of God – so follow Him.
