I sent the following letter to the White House on 8/7/09. My purpose for posting it at Faithwriters is to exercise my right to freedom of speech. With the White House supporting a "turn in" anyone who disagrees with the president's view of healthcare, I felt the need to defend freedom of dissent. What if we disagree with the president's views on religion? Is it completely impossible that he may one day set up the same "turn in your neighbor" program for that, too?
Dear President Obama,
I am ashamed of the White House residents for asking U.S. citizens to turn in people who do not agree with the president's healthcare policies. The flag@whitehouse.gov is one of the scariest things I have ever heard of. Please use some common sense and reverse this policy of reporting fellow citizens for having opinions.
Thanks.
Sincerely,
Dan Blankenship
