Hmmmmm.... "Why the long face?" Now thats funny!
This one is hard for me. While I like animals and even love my cat. The statement "Animals are people too" Drives me nuts. Hopefully I haven't ostracized all of the animal lovers out there with my revelation.I will give this a try.
I'll turn my homework in later.

anthropomorphism
<i>"Oh give thanks to the Lord, for he is good, for his steadfast love endures forever!"</i> Psalm 107:1
master class
"Oh that Eve, she makes me so mad. Walking around the garden like she owns the place. I'll make her see it my way."
"I can see that she is considering my propositon, wait, wait, once she takes the bite the deal is done. Stupid Eve, you have no idea what that bite has cost."

Jodie, it's hard for me too--but hey, I'm an equal opportunity teacher, and it came up on the list. Besides, even if you're never going to use a literary device, it's nice to be able to throw the terms around, and to recognize them when you see them.

This is not one of my favourite things... I don't care much for anthropomorphized letters, birth announcements, etc. I do like the commercial with a dog making a sandwich and discovering there's no Miracle Whip, so he heaves the whole thing in the trash. (Of course, it belongs in the trash WITH the Miracle Whip, too, but that's another topic... and jmho.)
Are you going to tell us how to pronounce Anthrop... anthro-po-mo....

And re-dotting the i's.

Hiya, Peej--
Yes, the entries you linked to work for anthropomorphism. And I agree--kids love that sort of thing.

Here's one from me:
Robin Redbreast
I spend my life in tune with joy,
I harmonize her lively song,
I see the people rush on by,
I see them push their life along—
They rush to find their happiness,
They cannot see their routine’s wrong;
They walk by bliss, and cannot see
All they must do is join my song…

Ann, I've never seen that quote--how wonderful! I'll have to remember that word.
You're the type of student who keeps us teachers on our toes.
We hate that.
(You know I'm kidding, dear.)

Both, Jodie--anthropomorphism is a tool used by many allegorists.jodiebanner wrote:One more little question. If I wrote a story based on my family in which I used a different animal to represent the different members and their characteristics, Would that be an allegory or Anthropomorphism?

Here is an sample of Anthropomorphism taken to the extreme from the Senior Master Writer Himself, God from His Holy Bible:
Num 22:29 And Balaam said unto the ass, Because thou hast mocked me: I would there were a sword in mine hand, for now would I kill thee.
Num 22:30 And the ass said unto Balaam, Am not I thine ass, upon which thou hast ridden ever since I was thine unto this day? was I ever wont to do so unto thee? And he said, Nay.
Num 22:31 Then the LORD opened the eyes of Balaam, and he saw the angel of the LORD standing in the way, and his sword drawn in his hand: and he bowed down his head, and fell flat on his face.
I think it is very applicable to this lesson to realize that God even sees that sometimes humans don't understand the spiritual unless they are told by an animal.

I had something really memorable to write here but I forgot what it was.
