Wk 7 Topic - TEXTING

Postby Deb Porter » Thu May 18, 2017 4:56 pm

Hi there, Challengeers. This week's topic is straightforward with very little grey area when it comes to meaning. The Week 7 topic is:

As always, have fun with the topic, and you can write in any genre or style you like. You can do with the topic whatever your heart desires. AS LONG AS SOME MEANING OF THE TOPIC, TEXTING, IS THE MAIN FOCUS OF YOUR ENTRY ... and as long as the entry conforms to the rules.

Some judges have commented, in recent weeks, that many of the entries are either very thin for topic or missing the topic completely. The topic needs to be the central focus of your entry (even if you don't literally mention the word). So explore the meaning of the topic each week before you start brain storming. It will avoid going in the wrong direction.

No definition required. It is the act of sending a text message to communicate with someone. Not a letter sent by mail or on paper. Not an email. This is a short message sent via a phone or texting device.

More and more people rely on sending text messages rather than make a phone call these days. For people who hate talking on the phone (raises hand) texting is a blessing. For people who love talking on the phone, texting is a pain. :D

Texting is one reason that more people are getting rid of their land lines (that and the fact so many have mobile devices these days).

So what comes to mind when you think of "texting?" Chew on the word. Think about your own experiences and things you may have seen or heard in the news or from others. Be creative. Fiction, nonfiction, poetry, inspirational article, devotional? What will you write?

As always, don't forget to check your word count before submitting (entries must be between 150 and 750 words). A very reliable and free online word count check tool is this one:

PLEASE, always hit the preview button to check your entry before hitting the final submit button. This is the only way to make sure your entry is uploaded correctly. This is very important, particularly if you are using HTML code for the first time. Once you have previewed your entry, close the preview page and hit the submit button.

Finally, once submitted, do a check to make sure your entry is safely in the list:

So get writing, Challengeers. Have fun.
