Centurion

This officer of Rome beheld the man,
Whose touch the world beseeched by multitudes,
The dust arose in clouds as people ran,
And gladly struggled forth with certitude,

The man of war quite liked the Nazarene,
The Jews in general he found inspired,
Attuned religiously--their God supreme,
With feasts and laws observed by faithful fire,

The one who called himself the Son of Man,
Observed Centurion approach that morn--
His servant lay near death he now began...
The Lord agreed to go, his will perform,

"Just give command, no need to come and see,
Your order is enough, for I believe."
